Anyone got any info? Read some previous threads and not that much info but what's been said seems to have all been positive! Considering it for my dd11. Anything I should know?

Small school, considered nurturing but still good academically. More supportive and less pressured than the likes of SHHS, CLSG, Habs and NLCS, and less of a party socialite crowd than Queens. Does attract more local girls than the bigger schools, lots living in Highgate, Crouch End, Muswell Hill etc. Perhaps not the place for a quirky individualist or strong character who wants to fight the system, but good for a girl who might get lost in a bigger, more competitive environment.

Disclaimer: this is based on girls I know who go/have gone there, not on my own dc. Go and look, see what you think. The head seems nice, very sane and sensible.

Thank you, would see you perhaps say it is as good as SHHS?

Hi, I have a daughter at Channing and have posted on this school before. We are very happy with it and I would agree with Polly's assessment.

I would be happy to answer specific questions, either on here, or via PM if appropriate.

Hard to compare with SHHS because they're so different. It's probably seen as less academic in the sense of being easier to get into - I know several girls who got into C but not into SHHS or CLSG, but probably not the other way round. You can compare their results, but tbh one school being higher up the league tables than another doesn't make it a better school, it generally just means they have are taking in more able kids at intake, and certainly doesnt tell you anything about the value added by the school. There are girls at Channing getting a straight run of A* at GCSE, just as there are at SHHS - league table results don't predict how your particular child will do in any given school.

It's down to personality, in the end. If I had a child who was in the top third of the range at primary school, but maybe not right at the top, who was quiet, liked to fit in, but sometimes a bit lacking in confidence, then Channing would be just the thing. If I had a child who was at the very top of the primary school's ability range and getting a bit bored, who had a confident personality and was happy to hold her own in a competitive environment, then I'd go for SHHS. Well actually I'd go for Henrietta Barnett or Latymer, and put SHHS as a backup, but that's a whole 'nother argument.

Hi, does anyone have a daughter at Channing junior school? My daughter has been given a chance opportunity to be assessed for a possible year 6 place and Im keen to try and find out more about what they might be looking for or how they will assess her at this stage?
