My daughter is in year 8 and is just "not getting" physics and chemistry. Are there books or websites out there that anyone who is/has been in a similar situation would recommend??

Thank you

Posting and running, so apologies.

Planet science is brilliant as a website.

What textbook is the school using?

I shall pop by tomorrow and try to help a bit more.

The Hodder books are very good, there are Hodder Gold versions too which simplify things a bit too.

You will want the Hodder B ones for year 8.

Have you spoken to the teacher? They may not realise she is struggling and will no doubt have some help sheets or other such resources available

Try CGP revision guides for the bare bones of what she needs, same with BBC bitesize. Exploring Science is a decent textbook but fairly basic. What is she struggling with? Is it because she can't 'see' it like she can biology? Or is it the maths involved?

Yes, those revision guides are excellent you can get them at different levels too.

I used them when I taught in England when my pupils were struggling.

Its def not the maths side of it, sadly in addition to just not "getting it", it could be the teachers approach. Last year she had a different teacher for the first term and loved physics, then teacher went on maternity leave and she got a teacher who simply couldn't understand the kids who didn't "get it". I'm in no way a physics/chemistry expert so don't feel comfortable approaching school/teacher just yet. Would like to try the books/websites mentioned and then if we are no wiser........I'll arrange a meeting. Thank you all.
