Help - Can't see how DD can do work experience in her 'chosen' field

DD wants to be a musician in the RAF.

Has to arrange work experience.

Help! I have no idea what we can do - she already plays with the county orchestra so has orchestra experience so that isn't something 'new' she could try.

Any ideas very welcome.

Even if she's a musician she'll have to know how a base works, right?

I think that very few kids actually get to do work experience in the fireld they want to go into.

Eg my Dad is a plumber & heating engineer. he can't take work experience kids any more as they are not allowed onto building sites under 18.

I've had lots of kids ask to do work experience at my theatre classes but becasue in term time I work mostly frhome and a lot at night and the classes themselves are at wekeends it is impossible. The school dictates which week it has to be done. If they wee more flexible I could take someone on during our Summer Holiday club or duringpresentation week when I am available.

Talk to the RAF. They have people raring to advise on all aspects of working with the Forces.

teehee! reminds me that a friend's son was asked to leave his work experience with the army as he wouldn't do what he was told. didn't see why he had to!!

My son did a week at Kneller Hall last year. It is army, but gives a taste of what she'd be in for (and the RAF may do something similar).

DD's school brass band spent a day with the Marine band a few years back and discovered that it is not easy to march and play at the same time while keeping the little music stand from swivelling upside down and dropping all the tiny music on the parade ground!
I think the Sgt. Major must have cried afterwards.

The Marine bandsmen, I gather, act as medical orderlies on a tour of duty. If the same is so of the RAF bandsmen then maybe she should consider doing a First Aid course with St. John's or the Red Cross.

I apologise for writing 'bandsmen', not only once but twice. Stupid of me.
