anyone else starting to get worried?

I know that I should know better; I teach GCSEs and every year have the same discussions with students/parents that no matter results there is always a route available for the future.

But now, it is a week and 1 day away from my own DS getting his GCSE results and I am really starting to get nervous! He needs B grades in order to go to his first choice college and C grades for his 2nd choice (which neither DS nor myself were really enthusiastic about attending).

I have the old 'sweet smile' on the outside but inside I have all sorts of events going through my head! For example, what if he has failed everything and decides to not go to college at all (even though I know it wont be that bad).

Surely my working experience should prevent this but it isn't Blush

Duchesse that's wonderful news. COngratulations x

minsmum · 25/08/2011 10:38

so relieved dd got 1A, 2 A's, 2B's & 3 C's. The A & A's are for the subjects she wants to study aat A-level. I can stop feeling sick now.

Gosh these are great results that everyone is getting.
DS just home from school, he has 4 A*, 3 A and 3 B and an ICT diploma.
The A* are in the subjects he is taking through to A level. So all happy here.

EightiesChick · 25/08/2011 11:29

herbietea How on earth could the whole school have only got a U in speaking and listening?? I'm imagining a scenario where every single pupil went in and remained mute for the entire exam and wrote nothing... Hope they get it sorted!

Best wishes to everyone for their DC's results

higgle · 25/08/2011 11:30

9 A* and 2 x A here, strangely the A's are in English and Art which he is keen to do at A level. I do think there is a bit of grade inflation going on here as his friends who were dreading telling their parents they had got a load of Cs have all got Bs and a few As, and our result was better than we expected.

EightiesChick · 25/08/2011 11:33

herbietea Just read the bit about your DC doing 5 A levels - is this with the aim of dropping one after AS? Given the subjects, it will be lots of reading and very heavy.

Cupawoman · 25/08/2011 11:55

DS achieved 3 A, 6 As, 2 Bs and E for Add Maths(speaks very quietly for the last one Grin ). Managed A/A for the subjects he wishes to do at A level so very pleased here. We will celebrate by going out for tea tonight!

sieglinde · 25/08/2011 11:58

Wow, congratulations to all dcsGrin

piellabakewell · 25/08/2011 11:59

DD1 (aged 13) got her A* in the maths module, she phoned me from cadet camp in soggy Norfolk and is over the moon.

Some great results here, well done all!

swingingcat · 25/08/2011 12:00

DC2 has some of his results! Website has crashed so we have a wait for the History and Business grades.
Biology B, Physics B, English C and Chemistry U

Totally confused these are year10 results and subject to change????

MABS · 25/08/2011 12:31

so very pleased for you all and your children. There are some AMAZING results on here. Many congrats.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 25/08/2011 12:40

DD2 is also doing 5 A levels. She's doing History, Geography, economics, English and General Studies (they have to do that). She probably won't drop one. DD1 however, has just got AS results last week and is dropping Psychology and carrying on with her other 4. I think some do and some don't drop.

duchesse · 25/08/2011 12:48

DD1 is going on to do the IB- I think it will suit her as she's a bit of an all-rounder.

MABS · 25/08/2011 12:48

only 4 a levels for dd, we will see about dropping at AS time :)

Milliways · 25/08/2011 12:49

My DD started with 5 AS levels (Maths, Eng Lit, French, German & History) but had to drop one for A2 as there was SO much work and she had no free periods at school so all evening doing homework every night. She dropped History.

DS just had his results. 5 A*, 5 A's (inc Add Maths) and 2 B's, so did very well. He is planning on 4 A levels.

Yellowstone · 25/08/2011 13:11

All good here too :). Including a few 100%'s in humanities. Very pleased because he's done the lot in Y10 and I was expecting the worst after quite a socially adventurous year. God only knows how they read any scripts: he makes Molesworth look neat.

I didn't know your school did the IB Duchesse but watch it, is she sure? It can be a real, real pig for university entrance apart from being a bit too broad and quite a bit less deep (and your DD is obviously bright).

so agree with you TSC, her results are great tho, well done to her...and you!

duchesse · 25/08/2011 13:19

Yellowstone, she's going to the college to do it. Staying at current school not an option financially for us. Cambridge (where she's planning on going) gives perfectly acceptable IB offers even in medicine which is what she thinks she will do (either that or Nat Sci). She is taking Higher Maths, Physics and Chemistry, with History, French and English at Standard.

Yellowstone · 25/08/2011 13:29

Oh ok Duchesse. I think quite a few go off to the college. What will the offer be for 2013, do you know? (vested interest!).

3boys1cat · 25/08/2011 13:32

DS1 got As in Maths and Chemistry, Bs in Art Graphics and ICT, As in everything else. Very pleased, particularly with the A in Maths as he needs this for Further Maths A Level.

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 25/08/2011 13:50

TSC FANFUCKINGTASTICALLY Brilliant! I am sooooooooo pleased for you! Given that we 'met' in the middle of all the shite revision and exams, it's made my day to read that your DD has done so well!

3boys Congratulations to you and DS as well, fab that he got his A* in maths.

Yellowstone and great news for you too! And I love 'socially adventurous year' Yep - DD1 did last year and DD2 has done this past year as well.

I have always said to them that so long as they work hard they can play as hard as they want. Paid off!!

minsmum · 25/08/2011 13:51

she just got home & also got a B in Science & a distinction in ICT. She is a bit gutted about her C's but I think she has enough for 6th form

duchesse · 25/08/2011 13:52

prob 7,7,6 or 7,7,7 in the higher subjects and 38-42 points overall inc extended essay points depending on the college.
