Highgate is the most fantastic, all rounder, mixed nationalities school one could think of. they accept everybody into the school whatever race/nationaliy/financial situation. they have lots of bursaries available and alot of the kids there are definitely not posh and for them to go to highgate, their parents have to sacrifice alot. if your child gets in, then do not worry about what type of background your from, because they are veryy welcoming

Highgate has tried to improve its academic side over the last few years to avoid its brighter pupils going to other schools. On the other hand it doesn't get things too wrong, so I'd say it is a fairly good school if you want an independent. Nobody is going to care about your background, this is the 21st century and London. If it's convenient and matches your child, then it probably won't be a great mistake.

Thank you. It all seems amazing and a really brilliant school, but not everyone seemed to think it was for us, so just trying to make sure we?re not missing something.

The school certainly does have some very wealthy families from highgate/hampstead and a substantial number of crouch-enders/muswell hill types. I think the atmosphere at the school has changed a lot in the past few years. It's much less 'posh', less 'traditional'. A growing number of young enthusiastic teachers (perhaps too many as every year several seem to go off on maternity leave!) They do quite a lot of trips in holidays etc and there is loads going on. On the academic side, the GCSE results last year were really good and better than many of the schools commonly regarded as more 'academic' (eg Habs). It's also a big school now (150 in the year group) so the chances of finding a soulmate or two are pretty high, whatever you're like and whatever background you might come from.

Thank you very much for replying.
Zeolite our local schools did care and some people have said these things are worse in independant schools, but I think they dont really know the school and just think thats how it will be.

I am planning to send my son to Highgate School Nursery when he is 3.

How easy is it to get a child admitted to that nursery? What do they need to 'see' in a child to accept him/her?
