I decided not to go to the 6th Form because it seemed too much like school for me. Looking round, it felt like a school, I found a couple of the lecturers quite patronising and just the whole set up seemed very, I don't know, regimented and like they would treat you like a school child.
From talking to friends and my cousins who went there, it seemed like they were quite immature compared to my friends from the Tech. I was completely
when they were talking earnestly about the table the cool kids sit at in the canteen, and which bench they always grab at lunchtime because it's their bench, but the 'geeks' try and sit on it. There seemed to be a lot more playground-esque bitchiness and competitiveness too, although I've only had all this second hand, so obviously haven't experienced it all properly.
I chose to go to the Tech because it seemed a lot more grown up to me, i.e. range of people and ages in classes, called the lecturers by their first names, much more responsibility for making sure you did the work and got on with it. But then, that suited me. I think I was ready for taking responsibility for myself, but it doesn't suit everyone.
However, transport was a fairly big issue for me, which made the Tech more suitable anyway. And I was mainly put off the 6th Form by the arse of a lecturer who, after hearing I went to Elgar (as was), assured me that I wouldn't get bullied at the college and was genuinely astounded when I said I was targetted A* for GCSE Maths, I quote: 'I never knew they could get As at Elgar'
So
