My yr 7 son is struggling in his school due to the fact that they have chosen to educate him in every subject in welsh, including French!!! Welsh is his second language. The school just doesn't seem to understand they are making school much harder than it needs to be. It claims in it's perspectus that it is bilingual, rubbish!!! Maths and the sciences should be in English so they can study one of these in higher education. The policies of this school are awful. I have applied for an English school 25 miles away, it is terrible that you can't get the education you wish for your child without moving them miles away!! I am so disgusted in this system!! What do think!!

tend to hang out in children's books and only venture out occasionally Grin

I think probably - is it Bro Gwaun? Went to a concert there last night and their music dept is very good if so! Again have heard mixed reports - but positive ones have been from people with dcs there now like you.

Oh you are heading south Takver! We are off into the mountains Grin. I worry for DS1 as he is never going to be academic but his Consultant and OT think it has the best SN department for him. He starts in September .

Oh, pertaining to the thread though, he has only ever been educated in Welsh and his school are more than happy he will cope in secondary as well, if he ever looked like it would be a problem (are we still pretending there is a an OP?) I wouldn't hesitate to find him somewhere else. There is a local school which has an English stream and he could go there although it appears rough as fuck and I think they would eat him alive Welsh speaking or not

I think you must be a bit north of us, lostinwales - I have to admit that unless dd really has strong feelings otherwise Bro Gwaun is just very much the most convenient from here. She's only in yr 4, so has a while to make up her mind yet.

Good luck to your ds - I'm sure all will be well for him and you'll find him the best place to be.

I was brought up in Wales although born in England and I feel a deep affection for both (the hills of Rural Wales are "home" since I spent all my school years there). Thus as I put on my census form I'm British.
Pride in the traditions and language of your country are good things, but if we let that pride make our area feel unfriendly and inward looking, it risks ruining that it seeks to protect. I believe we are far better all working together.

To do anything else is to let a tiny minority, who think London is the centre of the universe rule us all. For, sadly they hold the purse strings.
