I can't believe I am asking this - What level is your year 8 at?

Just got DDs report and feel it is confirming my suspicions that she will be leaving school with no GCSEs whatsoever.

However a little comparison would be helpful.

So hit me with some numbers please?

How often are you DC graded please? It seems a pretty ongoing event for my DS!

"your"

We get grades every term, so three a year.

In year 10 though there are modules being done, so you start to get 'real' grades coming through.

My DS (Y7) has had 4 lots of gradings already; the first set in September were only S=satisfactory or C=concern but since then they have had actual grades! I wondered if this was just finding out more about the boys and their abilities!

DDs school grades various individual pieces of work, but doesn't report a current level - just a target and expected level for the end of year 9. This seems to be because of the effect noted in the last few posts of the levels being very variable. They explained that in a subject such as Science or maths, they may teach ks3 content for some topics in year 7, so if a child does very well on that test they may get a level 8 for it because its as good as it could be - but the general standard they are working at as they develop skills will be lower at this stage.
