Sixth Form Personal Statement

My DD is applying to selective sixth forms from out of the country, and she's a bit unsure what to put in it. My DH and I have no idea what she's supposed to be writing either. Blush

Would anyone mind taking a look at it? Confused It's supposed to be able how she is compatible with the ethos of the school.

Do you know how many words she is supposed to write? It needs to sound as if she has written it, not the parents or been plagiarised from the internet.

Apply the PEE they learn in English lessons: Point, Evidence, Explain. So, supposing the school's ethos is 'service' she could simply say that she likes to be of service to others but those are cheap words that anyone could write. Instead she should say that she likes to be of service to the disadvantaged (point) and has been volunteering in a soup kitchen for the last five years(evidence). In addition to the obvious fact that she is helping others the work has helped her, too, in raising her awareness and giving her new skills (explain).

Here is UCAS's guidance on personal statements.

I mean take a look at what she has written has written so far, not what you seem to think I mean in that I that I have written it or that I want one of you to write it?!

The UCAS isn't much assistance for her because as I said, this is a sixth form PS and quite different. Hmm

Yes but its the same basis whether its sixth form or UCAS - why I want to do a course and why I'd be suitable, why I want to go to the school and why I match the ethos. My DD's had to do one for their sixth form and they followed something similar to what senua said.

Is there a suggested length?

Sorry, Nelly. I wrote something and then edited it. The tone and sense of meaning must have changed somewhere along the line. It was meant to be a word of warning, not a telling off. I didn't mean to imply anything.Blush

Do you want to post it here (I wouldn't, it's a bit too public) or do you want to PM someone? (I'm no use to you: I'm not in education, I'm just a parent like you).

If in doubt about something factual like length then I think that it is reasonable to ask the school.
