my ds hasn't got into any of the 6 state schools on my list, I received an email saying "no offer possible" from local London allocation email address

I'm absolutely devestated and have no idea what i am supposed to do now!

No advice but thought you could do with a bump. That's shocking (and illegal I thought)

Hassled · 01/03/2011 21:50

Have a search under the Sec Ed topic today - I saw a thread earlier from someone in the same boat and she was given advice re what to do next. What a nightmare - beyond belief how any LA thinks this is acceptable.

here it is

As I said on the other thread to which Hassled links, this is not acceptable. The LA must come up with an offer. They cannot just say you don't have a place and leave it at that. Ring them tomorrow and find out what they intend to do about the situation.

thanks for messages and link - seems i am not the only one in this situation, unfortunately

There was an article about this in today's Daily Telegraph-it seems to have happened to thousands of children this year-it is a shocking situation and truly devastating for the dc.Apparently in Kensington and Chelsea 15% were not offered a place at any of the selected schools. In London generally 5,500 dc "failed to secure a place at up to six secondaries".In Cambridgeshire 6.2% didnt get into their preferred schools whereas in North Tyneside all children were offered a place at one of their named schools.[p10 DT]

Failing to get into any of your selected schools is not great but it happens. Every school has a limit to how many children it can accept. If you only apply to popular schools there is a chance you will miss out.

The thing that is unacceptable is the LA saying that no offers were possible. If they had said that they weren't able to make an offer at the moment but were working on sorting something out that would just about be ok, but this is not.

I hope the LA come up with some good answers when the OP contacts them.
