GCSE spanish teachers - Edexcel/AqA - controlled assessments

I work in a pupil referral unit and we don't normally offer spanish. However we have a spanish student who wants to take the exam and as I was once a MFL teacher a million years ago, I have been cornered to deliver this.

I have looked at the specifications and see that there is controlled assessments for writing and speaking. But I can't find much help. I need an idiots guide to tell me what to do.

Which board are you doing?
What are you setting for the CA? How many words etc.

The oral tests?
what do you set?
Is there also an unseen role play or is it just a pre prepared conversation?

Any help gratefully received

We do Edexcel. For the writing they do 2 pieces of writing on 2 separate occasions, 200 words each. They are given the title; have up to 6 hours supervised preparation for it (with textbooks/dictionary/notes etc) during which time they complete a sheet that they can take in with them (30 words + 5 pictures on it, downloadable from Edexcel website). They then have 1 hour in exam conditions to produce their 200 words. There are sample titles/tasks in the specification.

Speaking works pretty much the same as regards preparing for it, similar sheet; followed by 4-6 minutes. There are 3 different types of situation - photo discussion where they bring a photo and that kicks off their discussion; a presentation followed by a discussion; or a role play (which I think could be challenging to make it last the required time + they must ask 2 questions). They cannot be given the questions you are going to ask in advance (although you can discuss the types of questions they think may come up).

If you download the specification, it's quite clearly set out. AQA is very similar as far as I can tell.

Speaking and writing are worth 30% each; listening and reading 20% each. Writing is sent to the exam board for marking; speaking is marked by you, and sent to the exam board for moderation.

thank you so much.

could you just explain the sheet of 30 words and five pictures. is that sent from exam board as a help sheet for their chosen topic or do they create it and make notes consisting of 30 words?

how many speaking tasks do they do for the higher?

The pro-forma can be downloaded from the website but they put the pictures/words on it. There is no real difference between foundation/higher regarding speaking and writing - 2 tasks for each. I suppose you could say that it's differentiation by outcome!
