Centigrade profiling for University Courses

We have just received a letter from DS1 school (Lower sixth) offering this profiling service. From what I can understand it matches the individual with suitable university courses and then additional information related to the these courses. Has anyone personal experience of using this profiling? It is endorsed by UCAS and costs 17.50.

I haven't heard of it but I presume it is only useful if your DS hasn't a clue what he wants to study. I would have thought a bit of personal research looking at potential courses on the UCAS website would be just as worthwhile.

Sounds like money for old rope to me - the information is all there on the UCAS site and/or the individual universities. I suppose it would save you/DS reading through the information yourselves, but unless your time is so short you can't manage that, I don't see that it would add any value.

We have had a similar offer for the same thing - likely to be more expensive though (final cost dependent on take up). The school have said in past years students have found it stimulates thought & helps them to get started with looking up course info on UCAS. Apparently it is very detailed and is less of a time saving thing, but more 'here's how to start your research' in a way that's matched to your interests and aptitudes.

My thought is that £17.50 is a very small sum when compared to the cost of a degree, so if there's any chance at all that it will guide a child towards a better course for them (or away from one they think is suitable but isn't) then it's worth it.

That said, I suspect it's more worth it for children who aren't so clear in their own minds about what they want, and I'm wondering if it's worth it for ds who seems reasonably sure what he wants to do and it seems like a suitable choice. He wants to do it anyway so we probably will (I'm getting the vibe that most people at his school opt to do it). I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has a dc that has actually done it.

Yes ,DS tried this - it's relatively helpful .
But I wouldn't rely on the lists of suggested courses as being 100 % accurate .
There were some courses that justy didn't get listed .
Actually ,now I think about it - the format really isn't very accesible/user friendly .
Tho possibly that's just me .
Personally ,DS was so clueless I was desperate to try anything .
