First Xmas at secondary school - do I need pressie for teacher?

What do they do at secondary school? Because the kids only really have the register with the form teacher and then different subject teachers, presumably it's not necessary to buy a pressie...
Also we've switched to the private sector,so don't know if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

No. Other children will laugh and point.
Really no.

I have sent emails to teachers thanking them for their help/ support/ kindness to my dcs. But no public sucking up gift giving

pagwatch · 08/12/2010 14:45

Btw .. 2 dcs' in private school...

My DD reckons just a card (from her, not me) to the form teacher is all that's appropriate.

SandStorm · 08/12/2010 14:48

DC also at private school and have never sent a gift for the teachers - any of them.

Classmates on the other hand? My word, that's been an eyeopener and a whole new reason for pocket money. Gifts for virtually the whole class!

pagwatch · 08/12/2010 14:51

Really sandShock

never had that with mine. Cards for friends but that it is it.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 08/12/2010 14:52

My mum once made me take chocolates in for my form tutor for xmas. I was not impressed and so I ate them lol.

We are getting the wanting to for all of their friends though. I have told dd's that they pick 2 friends to buy for and that is it.

TriggersBroom · 08/12/2010 14:54

Ok that's fairly unanimous then. Thanks.

Grin at Metherbumfit's description of DD's reaction!

Dd did ask ( but she is only 8) but having spoken to the other mums we all agreed that going there would be a bloody nightmare. So if we want to do anything we send in some cakes or sum mat during the last week. The teachers are cool about that.

At secondary, if she wants to buy for her friends, that becomes about her pocket money and her choice.
I am not funding it.
I suspect a card will seem enough then. Grin

Acanthus · 08/12/2010 15:12

Do you send a card to the head teacher? Am new to independent secondary and my only RL friend in the same boat is Jewish so not likely to have given the question much thought!

Goingspare · 08/12/2010 19:08

I recommend the Secret Santa idea as far as buying gifts for friends is concerned.

panettoinydog · 08/12/2010 19:16

If your child is at secondary school, s/he should be able to tell you what s/he wants to do re presents.

panettoinydog · 08/12/2010 19:17

oh lordy, send a card if you want. Why the overthinking?
