Must you stay within catchment are?

My son is at a very good grammar school the past 3 years and he is very happy there. But there is always this desire to move to somewhere slightly more rural or downsizing to pay for private secondary school for his brother who is going to our local comp. Assuming we can get our son to his current school still, must we still live within the catchment area of the school?

You need to check the school's policy. It's unlikely that there would be any problem but best to be sure.

No need to check the school's policy. Once your child has started at a school they can't take his place away just because you move out of catchment. That is laid down in the Admissions Code which all schools (apart from independent schools) must comply with.

It shouldn't be a problem so long as the transport is reasonable. A lot of GSs have 'residual places' from outside catchment anyway.
