It means to "ascertain the numerical value of"

Twiceshy · 01/11/2010 21:45

I assume it just means, in plain English, work out 4squared, then 5 squared etc.

Really odd wording but I'd agree with twiceshy - where does it appear, in a textbook ?

I know what evaluate means, I just don't get why there is a comma between4 squared then 5 squared. I feel the comma must mean something

No, it just means 4 squared then 5 squared. The comma has no meanng in British maths. Evaluate means work out the value of.
