DS1's geography book must be covered in a map (not ordinary clear plastic like his other books, oh no!

But I don't have any maps I want to sacrifice, and printer isn't working (I normally email things to office and print them there, but no time for that now. DS has already had a 5 min detention for it.

So Which map shall I sacrifice? I'm thinking S'Ireland.

Bloody ridiculous!

BeeTeeDotCom · 13/09/2010 17:35

Giving him detention for not covering it in a map I mean!

sandripples · 13/09/2010 17:35

You can buy wrapping paper which is a map. Wd save your collection.

bruffin · 13/09/2010 17:39

Can't he print one at school. Dcs get an allocation at school and anything over that they have to pay for

LynetteScavo · 13/09/2010 17:44

Interesting. I'll ask about printing off at school, and see if he knows anything.

mnistooaddictive · 13/09/2010 18:18

How long was he given to do this? If it was a week and he forgot then the detention is understandable but if it was just a few days then a bit harsh!
Could he draw a map on plain paper and use that - include a few ordance survey symbols and a key or a map of the school with the classroom marked etc.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/09/2010 18:20

Ridiculous

How is a five minute detention meant to punish a kid? Not that not backing your book in a map needs punishing.

LynetteScavo · 13/09/2010 20:00

He had all weekend, so we did have time, really. The teacher must be a bit of a pedant to insist on a map, though. I'm wondering if the Home Economics teacher will insists books are covered in grease proof paper. Hmm

Anyway, it's done now. I just ripped a page out of our road atlas.

mumoverseas · 14/09/2010 20:22

you should have picked up a travel brochure from a travel agents. They always have maps in the front

EvilTwins · 14/09/2010 20:24

Perhaps his Home Ec teacher will want the book covered in icing.

Loshad · 14/09/2010 21:37

should i get the kids to cover their books in chemicals? (science teacher)

EvilTwins · 14/09/2010 22:24

Maybe just get them to set the books on fire Loshad.

I teach Performing Arts. We don't have books. We just pretend that we do.

BelligerentGhoul · 14/09/2010 22:27

FGS - a map? That is bonkers! I would be v tempted to cover it in a map of Middle Earth printed from the internet. Or lots of little tube maps...

BelligerentGhoul · 14/09/2010 22:27

Pmsl at icing. :)

Just wait until you discover that every single piece of homework has to be done on the computer, using specific software programmes that you don't have, and printed, all with less than 24 hour's notice. It drives me mad. Not everyone has state of the art technology that always works..............

We spent all the Christmas money on a laptop and printer for dd (Year 8) because my nerves couldn't take any more.

(And this is in a state school BTW. )

PS - I do sympathise - your post just brought back all the stress!! Grin

LynetteScavo · 15/09/2010 21:27

Well this weeks geography homework is to make a globe.

A GLOBE!

OP posts:
mollyroger · 15/09/2010 21:30

Can I join in with a rant?
Well of COURSE ds can do a 15 mile sponsored walk with one leg in pot ...and of course he won't be bullied by the rest of the class who have been promised a trip to a theme park for the class who raises the most sponsorship.

''so could you let us know whether you are doing it or not'' says his form teacher Hmm

ampere · 17/09/2010 09:07

lol at eveiltwin's 'pretending to have a book'!

ampere · 17/09/2010 09:10

I had to help with the construction of a globe, too, but at least DS was supplied with a net to cut out with tabs to glue... well, had I applied any intelligence, instead of attempting to help DS hold the thing in place whilst either a) the glue set, or b) one of us manhandled the stapler, I would have reached straight for the sellotape. D'oh.

ShrinkingViolet · 17/09/2010 09:17

we had to make a papier mache (sp?) mountain and draw the relief lines (is that what they're called?) in the week before Christmas when DD1 was in Y7. We put it in the loft to reuse for DD2 - fortunately that particular teacher retired before she could inflict any more crap homework interesting and fun projects on Y7.

Template for a globe (if it's not too late ...)
