Help. New Y7, no blazer, where to store bus pass, key etc?

DS1 is starting secondary next week...!

He will need £1 bus fare, a bus 'pass' (enables discounted bus travel) and a locker key to go to school, then somewhere to put his return bus ticket all day.

Sadly the uniform has no blazer, but his school trousers do have a zip back pocket.

I am thinking about finding a slim leather-ish wallet to put and zip in that pocket for these items, bearing in mind he'll be struggling to unzip it, pull out the wallet and locate the return half of his bus ticket with an anorak, backpack and sports kit bag on his person, and 50 other kids attempting to bundle onto the bus behind him (shudder).

Any other ideas, those who have gone before??

Oh, for a bloody BLAZER.

I've bought DS a backpack with a keyring clip in it...to keep his house key.

He's going to keep his bus pass in his wallet. It's an animal wallet with a clear space for such things.

PE kit will be in said back pack. I have no experience, though...DS1 is my first at high school. Shock

Cant he keep it in his school bag most have some sort of pocket inside
Mine don't always keep that type of stuff in their pockets

I actually worry about a) his forgetfulness and b) theft! At primary there's always someone to- if not actually call home to say a DC has forgotten stuff, then at least to put it in lost property. Secondary is every man for himself! At least with a blazer it's more or less on them all day!

Only problem, in summer last year DD was carrying her blazer in the hot weather and all her cards fell out, she lost her train pass and lunch card.
Is he not going to wear a coat in the winter if they don't have a blazer?

You need something like this which he can clip to the belt loops on his trousers. THink you used to get ones with an extendable cord so you would never have to unclip it.

I bought new M&S trousers this year which have a zip on the back pocket, and another zipped pocket inside one of the side pockets.....they seem to do lots of different trousers. The ones with the two zip pockets were of course the most expensive.

Personally I prefer any money and their bus pass not to be in their school bags. A lost bus pass is a PITA and £5 to replace. Also bus drivers here refuse to take DC on the return journey if they can't produce it on demand. The school office will issue a tempory one, but that's not much use if the bus has gone.

Small purse in zipped trouser pocket here. I too was worried about lost bags, stolen bags etc...they do learn to cope eventually.

Neck lanyard. Tuck it into shirt in day. Can hold id card (like bus pass) keys and could clip on something to hold a pound or two.

My son started yr 7 on Friday and had his locker key on a neck lanyard (as recommended by school).
Came home yesterday and he's lost it already. Someone tapped him on the head at break in a crowd and he felt something brush his ear, next time he looked, no lanyard! Of course he may have taken it off & left it somewhere but it sounds like one of the big kids nicked it.

Hopefully when he gets the spare key from his tutor he will still have a games kit in the locker and that won't be gone too...

Off to buy a combination lock this afternoon!

OneMoreMum · 07/09/2010 22:34

Well hooray key has mysteriously appeared at reception minus lanyard.

Have still bought a combination lock though.

Luckily they pay for their lunch with a fingerprint, am pretty sure even he couldn't lose that...
