I have a child that i will be going
to secondary school next year. I would like for her ti attend yhe same as my older foster child. My question is does my biological child qualify for a sibling place if my foster child is in a school?

It may differ - if the LEA is the admissions authority, try their website (found some that do).

In our LEA yes! Check your LEA website, it should have a definition of sibling (here it includes all children in the household).

You need to look at the LA website for the actual school admission criteria and see what it says about siblings.

In many instances it now says that it is any children living permanently in the household but you need to check. Also given the situation I would ask the admission office of the LA in writing (email is fine) to confirm that they will be treated as a sibling. When you then fill in the application form make sure you state that there is a sibling so that you get put in the right admission category. Sorting it out afterwards is always a pain and just increases the worry and tension for you and your child, so it is best to spell it out as many times as possible to the LA to reduce the potential for a mistake to a minimum.

Thanks. It seems no definition written for sibling in my LEA? I will have to dig around.

In our LA yes it would count

mmmperuna · 23/08/2010 15:48

Sorry might have been helpful to say our LA is northampton

Having had a look at some of the London Boroughs, some seem to leave it down to the individual school to define 'sibling place' Confused

Yentil,
If you could say which school and LA I will look it up .

Is it a formal fostering arrangement, registered with the local authority or arranged by an authorised agency? Our LEA disregards informal 'fostering' (ie sending a child to stay with friends), but recognises formal fostering as a sibling relationship.
