Having bought a blazer from M&S I trot off to official school wear shop to buy a badge to sew on.

But I have had to buy a whole new blazer, because they no longer sell badges separately; the blazers have the badge embroidered onto the pocket these days!

I am a bit sceptical about the fashion for embroidered clothing tbh. It makes them hard to recycle. Embroidered badges would make a lot more sense.

It's a shameless monopoly and one of my pet hates. We can only buy DS2's uniform from ONE place - completely contra to the previous Government's guidelines and this practice has attracted criticism from the Office for Fair Trading. See this article from last year. I've complained to the school. A lot. And I will keep going!

I hadn't looked at it like that before, Hassled.

Now I'm quite worked up that I had to buy logoed sports socks, as well as everything else with the school logo on. And the only shop I can buy it all from is a 26 mile round trip away. DS had better not loose any of it!!!

We can buy blazers with sewn on badges but can also by the badges from the school or the uniform supplier.

good luck on the 'no losing' front LS you'll be lucky if he gets through the first year without losing something major - ds1 (just finished y8)is now on his THIRD PE kit (he now has to pay half and I've told him next time he loses it he'll be paying the lot, a not inconsiderable sum ...)

My daughters' school had the blazers with the embroidered badges (at totally ridiculous cost) and a green braid round the blazer as well. You could theoretically buy the badge separately if you wanted to get your own, cheaper, blazer elsewhere, but how the heck you were supposed to get the braid on to the blazer I just don't know. As a result, those who had the cheaper blazers stood out.

I had a blazer with a ready embroidered badge when I was at school and that was 25 years ago!
