School uniform styles

Has anyone noticed the style of school uniform for teenagers in mainstream shops, e.g. Tesco, BHS etc?

The skirts are short, the blouses skin tight and the cardigans 3/4.

I am really concerned about the sexualisatin of young teenagers and feel these look like a parody of a uniform and wouldn't look out of place in Ann Summers or a Britney Spears video. How much pressure is this putting on parents who are on on a budget and schools which would like their pupils to try and look smart?

Well my daughter can't wear skirts from mainstream shops. Most schools around here restrict the school skirts to one or two set styles, as they are quite strict about skirt length.

So I'm not sure which schools the school skirts are aimed at? Maybe just tall primary school girls?

Is it for primary? In secondary schools we have been given a list of 3 shops we can get the uniform from, with srtict regulation on length of skirt.

DD1 just finished year 6 and yes, the length (or lack of it rather) of some girls skirt was quite Shocking! Forunately, Dd is more a trousers type of girl so we get arrount it with easeSmile!

The secondary schools around here say the skirts have to be just above or just below the knee. So the girls just roll it up at the waist on the way to and from school and drop in down again in sight of teachers. Hmm

It is pretty much impossible to get a skirt that is long enough - knee length at dd's school. Most of the girls wear trousers anyway as they don't want to wear them that long. M&S were about the longest and Next the shortest.

I found the Tesco brochure shocking and m&s shot themselves in the foot last year with their fashion blazer. They even offered me a free one this year because I complained last year.
Do they even talk to schools to find out what the schools want for uniform?

Now DD is in secondary the only place I could get her skirt is in a school uniform shop, which tend to be more expensive and not such good quality. It's a plain navy sewn pleat. I couldn't even get a plain blue short sleeve open neck shirt for DD from M&S.
