Do they put miracle grow on kids in year 7?

This week a few kids that used to be at the primary school have been in to watch their year 6 brothers/sisters in the leavers plays etc and I cant believe how quick they grow.

One lad was walking around, about 5ft 10, long dark hair - I thought "he's a dishy young fellow" and I later realised it was "Courtney's" older brother who only left primary school a couple of years ago!!! when do they get so big??

Does it happen to them all then when they start secondary school? are they attacked with miracle grow in their first few weeks? In two years time when DS1 is visiting the primary school with me to watch his younger brother's leavers assembly will he be towering over me??

DS1 is year 7 age, September birthday, so nearly 13. He has just overtopped me (I'm 5'5"). He is very tall though!

Boys usually shoot up between years 9 and 10 - they leave in July and you're looking them in the eye; they come back in September and you are suddenly looking up, a lot!!

Yep, they dip their feet in it every day, right after you buy a full set of uniform, so that you only get one term out of it before their arms and legs are sticking out!

I hope my DDs do this! I plan on sticking them in pots and watering them this summer.
Triplets are usually small but they're a good few inches smaller than their next smallest classmate!

They go up to Secondary in September and their school seems so huge, and they are so tiny!

My yr7 DS has just overtaken me in height too - I'm 5'5", and he doesn't even turn 12 till next month. And he's nowhere near the tallest in his class. I think he must be part sunflower - he always grows fastest when it's sunny. I don't dare buy his uniform for next year yet...

I'm sure he will be towering over you, and be struggling to look inconspicuous. They loose their coordination and look very ill at ease in public when they suddenly shoot up. I have had 5 DS and it still surprises me how quickly boys grow. I have 2 adult DS who are 6ft tall, but was still shocked when their 'little' brothers shot past them. The 17 year old is 6'3" and the 14 year old is 6'2".....still time to grow some more! DS5 is still only 13 but has nearly caught me up. His cricket whites needed turning down 3 inches and they were plenty long enough at Easter. It's not just the height, the change from boy to man is quite dramatic.....mine have very deep voices, and they do seem very 'loud'.

I'm sure your DD will be fine Allimomma!

ds1 would love some miracle-gro - he's just finished y8 and has yet to have this growth spurt of which you all speak - he's just gradually creeping upwards very slowly - he's about 5'4" now, but dh is 6'4" and he's feeling the pressure ... he's still obviously a little boy though so I"m hoping there's plenty of time yet

Glad I've got new YR7 uniform with 'room to grow' then

Although has anyone else found that it's difficult to get the balance between 'room to grow' and 'drowning in uniform'??!

notagrannyyet · 24/07/2010 10:43

BB

I'm sure he'll grow soon. 5'4'' is not short if he's obviously still a boy.

School uniform buying is always a bit of a gamble. If you keep the receipt you can always change it if DC has a sudden growth spurt before the new year starts. I've struggled to find larger size school trousers at times. M&S etc. don't seem to stock a full range of the larger sizes all year. Shirts aren't so much of a problem and lots of boys put up with tight fitting blazers.

Back in my day mum would buy your winter duffle coat with lots of room to grow! Mine fitted perfectly the winter before I left school!

My dd is 13 and 5 feet 9 already.....

notagrannyyet · 24/07/2010 13:10

I hope she realises how lucky she is! I would love to have been tall.

AlliMomma · 24/07/2010 16:59

She is lucky!

I'm the pretty average 5"6 and my husband is 5"10 so I'm not sure the girls are going to be particularly tall but I'd like them to spurt up a bit! Being triplets means they get a lot of unwanted attention, being small triplets makes it worse for them I think!

katiestar · 24/07/2010 21:55

The girls seem to shoot up in Y6

CardyMow · 28/07/2010 22:10

Arf! DD (just finished Y7) has gone from 4'6" in July last year at the end of Y6 to 5'1" yesterday....four more inches and she'll be as tall as me! She has gone through three full sets of school uniform (including blazers) in Y7, and as she's grown a whole inch in the last 3 weeks, even the last set doesn't fit her anymore.

3plusbump · 29/07/2010 07:22

Wow! That's some growth spurt loudlass!

That really worries me about uniform. It took me so long to save up for DS1's uniform for secondary, the thought of doing it all again during YR7 makes me feel a little faint
