Which small towns and villages are worth visiting for a half day/day trip?

The sort of places that have independent shops, a little museum and nice cafes. Dog friendly is a bonus.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

Stonehaven

I love Stonehaven.

But doesn't it depend on where you are travelling from OP? There are so many interesting places to visit.

ThePineappleSeahorse · 23/05/2026 19:30

Thanks all. I’m just outside of Glasgow but happy to travel to most places.

You aren’t wrong about Bourton-On-The-Water though. I loved that place. I’m planning a visit around that area so thank you for reminding me to visit it again.

Just what I was about to say!
EXTREMELY dog friendly -I think there’s only 1 cafe which doesn’t allow them! Beautiful beach, independent shops and boutiques and also a castle
