Did anyone watch this?
The Edinburgh house was not one of my favourites - too many mish-mashed extensions for my liking.
The Shetland house was my winner.

i loved the black box and granny’s house . The winner was messy I thought

QuintessentiallyScottish · 19/05/2026 18:46

I wasn't fully concentrating on it last night but was surprised at their choice. I thought they must have seen something in the flesh that didn't come across on screen. It was my least favourite of the three on the original episode.

SoNotaRealHousewife · 19/05/2026 18:53

It was bloody awful!

Intothewhite · 19/05/2026 18:53

I loved the winner! I thought it was really original and comfortable looking. But the one I would really like to live in is the one down in Dumfries and Galloway with the swimming pool and pony.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/05/2026 19:02

I'm not surprised the winner won, the judges clearly loved it very much.
For me the peace and warmth of the Skye house was very appealing.

IsThisEverOkay00 · 20/05/2026 09:41

I prefer the glasgow one with the custom made sofa. I agree that the house that won was too cluttered in styles, but yes, perhaps more of a ‘homely’ feel.

I’d love to see a version of this focussing solely on flats, given so many in Scotland live in tenements.

Completely agree. I much preferred the house on Shetland which was lovely and homely. The house with all the extensions piled on top of each other was awful. But then they liked a "black house" which to me looked like a shed. And this one near me won a couple of years ago and I thought it was awful. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9rr19393keo

I really really disliked that house!

This year's winner didn't appeal to me either, although the atmosphere inside seemed very homely. It looked so messy outside.
The Skye house was lovely in a way but was so dark and claustrophobic with all that wood inside and too shed-like outside.
Unusually I didn't have a favourite but probably liked granny's house and the other extended bungalow the best.

Always enjoy the programme though.

Lazingsundayafternoon · 21/05/2026 06:49

I just couldn’t understand their choice. Everyone was raving about the house with the pool and then it was the first one to be turned over with no real explanation as to why. I can’t understand why they chose the one they did at all. Also found the final very dull.

TipsyLaird · 21/05/2026 07:18

I think they should use a larger spread of numbers when voting initially. Everything gets a 9 or a 10, you know they really hate it if they give an 8 and I think I've seen 7 once or twice.

Htcunya · 21/05/2026 08:14

Didn't there used to be more regions and therefore more finalists? Maybe they're not getting as many applicants. It made the final a bit lack lustre.

QuintessentiallyScottish · 21/05/2026 10:33

I thought the final made for rather uncomfortable viewing. Seeing the judges going round the houses during the episodes is good but them all being together, tense (I don't mean just nervous about who's going to win) in the fancy place in the final didn't really work.

JamMakingWannaBe · 21/05/2026 13:42

They rejected the one with the pool because it didn't have immediate access to the garden from the kitchen. Tenuous.

I can't remember the other houses in that episode but why choose it for the final then?

I agree about the marking. They gave one house a 7 because it had an IKEA wardrobe and not a reclaimed auction one they like due to "sustainability".

They initially raved about the nic-nacs in the Bridge of Allan house, then said there were too many and they were taking focus from the "architecture".

I suppose they needed to pick a winner somehow.

.... and what's with Danny's crocs?

I wondered about the crocs too!!

QuintessentiallyScottish · 21/05/2026 17:21

I actually shouted at the telly. I saw the socks that went half way up his calves, with the shorts, then I saw the crocs. What is the world coming to.

awaynboilyurheid · 30/05/2026 21:39

Loved Granny’s house in D and G,those views and the pool! I wasn’t keen on the winner all different kinds of wood looked like the woodwork teacher brought his work home with him! It looked too unfinished for me no idea how it won. Yes Danny and those awful crocs, love Banjo his quips make it for me!

Brownpuppy · 31/05/2026 23:13

The pond pool in granny’s house! 🤩 The winner didn’t do anything for me. I loved the Shetland house, it really seemed to reflect the owner. Those gorgeous blue chandeliers! It was such an interesting home and unlike anything I’ve seen before. That would have been my winner.

Ophir · 31/05/2026 23:16

I hated the winner. Such a mess!

my winner was the black house

They often feature flats though, don't they? I remember one was a very small one bedroom tenement, beautifully done.

It was a mess. Three different extensions. I think they liked it because it was timber.

scienceteachersarefun · 31/05/2026 23:23

I really liked the house which was owned by the Scottish - Pakistani couple. I thought the cultural mix was lovely, very nicely done.

scienceteachersarefun · 31/05/2026 23:26

That house Blawglowan, near the Bridge of Allen was it? Just full of stuff, a bit overwhelming. I didn't really like Granny's Hoose, it was another big boxy extension. I quite liked the converted granary.

I think I understand why they do that - it's people's homes so they don't want to be too rude, so it's 7-10, but you know 7 isn't very good.

I also liked that one. The mix was so lovely I remember an amazing set of ceiling lights but also the colours.
