Are these typical costs for buying and selling in Scotland atm?

I live in Scotland - but have not bought or sold for 20 years so out of the loop -

Costs for selling (estate agency & legal) - 1% plus fees/HR
(eg 150K around 2.5K, 300K around 5K etc)
costs for buying (@180K) = 2.5K.

It seems a LOT - is this about right?

Have you included land tax? It's really high up here.

TirednessOnToast · Yesterday 17:10

Yes it would be £800 for the new house.

£8000?

TirednessOnToast · Yesterday 17:27

LBTT (land and buildings transaction tax) is listed on lawyers fee quote as:
£800.00 for new house (valued at £180K offer price £185K)
I assume that's correct? 8K would not be possible for me!

Sorry!

Well done getting a house that cheap these days.

Our last move was 1.5% estate agent fees and £1000-1500 estimate solicitor fees, ended up being around £1300. Plus VAT.

Plus £200 mortgage arrangement fee and plus home report cost.
But we saved money by not using professional movers, roped in a couple of rugby-playing nephews and hired a man with a van for a few hours.
