Moving from England to Scotland

Has anyone moved their child after GCSEs to Scotland? Are they compatible?
we are Scottish, DCs were born in Scotland and went to primary school there. We would like to move back. DD 16 is sitting GCSEs this year, we thought this might be a good time to move straight after her GCSEs so she’d get a couple of weeks in before summer holidays in S5. Other DC would be going into S3 so would be making subject choices. Been in touch with the school and they have no problem with it

i just want to hear from anyone who has moved between the 2 and the biggest challenges/differences please?

I’m pretty sure most if not all of Edinburgh picks Nat 5s this time of year in S2 and starts in S3, ditching all other subjects then apart from the Nat 5 subjects and PE and PSME or whatever it is. I’m pretty sure the SQA (or whatever it has changed its name to) is well aware of this. They’re hardly hiding it! I didn’t realise this was unusual. My kids would have loathed doing a 3rd year of food tech, art, music etc.

DDs school was debating until the last minute on the options for her year between 7 options or 5 options in S3 (plus English, Maths, PE, etc). Had it been 7, it would have included a language and science, but they went with 5 in the end. As a former teacher of one of those subjects, I was disappointed with that decision. However, they didn't teach Nat 5 material until S4, with the exception of Art, where they started the first topic a few weeks early to complete it before the school holidays. D&M went the opposite way and focused on Nat4 until Christmas in S4, only starting Nat5 in the January.

I'm the person who mentioned only 2 AH, but I didn't mean across the board, just out of the 5 subjects that DD is doing for Higher. Still, no AH available in History or English was a shock.

We’re in Edinburgh and had the same @Firtreefiona Picked subjects at end of S2, and continued with 8 at Nat 5 in S3/S4.

Yes, same here. Subjects chosen in Spring of S2, nat5, new timetable starts in June and then they do the nat5 over S3 and S4.
My son S4 is about to sit Nat5 maths in May but he's actually been doing the higher course since January.

Only 5 subjects at Nat5? That's quite unusual, most schools I know do 8. Not all pupils will sit 8 at nat5 level, some will drop down to nat4 but everyone does 8 subjects, unless they are on a reduced timetable for a specific reason.

5 options, plus the compulsory subjects, so 7 including Maths and English. DD did 8 Nat5s, but only because she did both Maths and Apps of Maths.
