Can anyone recommend and lovely gluten free restaurants in Edinburgh?
it’s DPs (celiac) birthday soon and I’m looking for inspiration. We’ve been to most of the bigger chain places like bar & block, miller and Carter, pho, Edinburgh street food but I fancy somewhere different for a change.
he eats almost anything but seafood isn’t a favourite.
please and thank you.

Makers mash was fantastic. From memory the only thing I couldn’t have was haggis.

Thank you, I’d actually forgotten about there after seeing it on TikTok their menu is most celiac friendly and I know he’s mentioned trying it. That could be where we end up.

Browns have a separate GF menu and were very good at cross-contamination control to the point that someone different served their meal.
Howies also seem to take allergies very seriously.

Cote Brasserie is a chain that is really on the ball with GF options. It's a coeliac relative's favourite place to eat out.

Coeliac Society lists quite a few coeliac-safe restaurants in central Edinburgh, but they’re all bog-standard chain places.

I ate absolute lovely GF food at

Arcade Bar on Cockburn St (only the GF haggis)
Royal Deck Tearoom on the RY Britannia
Cafe Edinburgh on the Royal Mile
Badger & Co on Castle Street

I am gluten intolerant, not coeliac, and I cannot confirm that they are coeliac-safe. Probably a good idea for you to phone ahead and double-check with them.

If he can eat oats, the only GF option at Arcade Bar is the GF haggis. And the whiskies !

Thank you for the other suggestions.

He does have to be strict or he’s ill for days/weeks. He also needs to be careful with dairy, which is fairly normal for celiacs. He was accidentally glutened over Christmas and is just back to normal so wherever we go needs to be pretty good around cross contamination. It’s a bloody minefield

Which is why I say check. I didn’t bother, because I know I don’t need to. They may be coeliac-safe, I don’t know.
