Edinburgh where to eat

Family heading to the theatre on Saturday evening - can anyone suggest where to eat near Waverley ? Nothing too spicy and nothing too creamy - got to suit multiple generations. Thank you

Which theatre? There isn't loads right beside waverley - what distance were you thinking as a maximum?

The playhouse? Seems to be a touch north east of Waverley - I guess within a 30 min walk ?

There a Cosmo all you can eat buffet at the Omni centre near the theatre which would allow everyone to eat what suits? Or a Toby Macaroni?
my personal choice would be the Botanist on St James Place: https://thebotanist.uk.com/locations/edinburgh/menus

Google "best restaurants Leith Walk", no shortage of choice.

Bonjamin · 31/10/2025 08:37

Giuiliano’s is a nice Italian place very close by - good pizzas!

FionnulaTheCooler · 31/10/2025 08:40

Bonnie and Wild food market in the St James Quarter is good, it has multiple different options so you should find something to suit everyone. It does get busy and you may have to queue for a table though so give yourselves plenty of time.

There is Gordon Ramsay‘s Street burgers in the St James Centre.

Some more fantoosh places around Saint Andrews Square.

MiddleAgedDread · 31/10/2025 11:26

Bonnie & Wild in the St James centre is a street food market type place but no bookings and there's often a queue in the evening. There's also Edinburgh Street Food at the side of the Omni centre but same issue applies.
Also in the St James centre Pho and Salerno Pizza are really nice. The Gordon Ramsey place was ok but I thought it was seriously overpriced and the service was shite.
A bit further down Leith Walk, Vittorias on the Walk is excellent.
Amarone and The Ivy on St Andrew's Square.
The Broughton bar or Olive Branch Bistro on Broughton Street.
Howies on Waterloo Place

Thatstheheatingon · 31/10/2025 15:33

Howies Waterloo place looks good and should have a menu to suit. I'd just go for that
(By "looks good" I mean the interior is very nice)

I disagree - the pressure wasn’t on them at all
yes they were stuck with whoever they married but the levels of violence and other forms of abuse was shocking

@kelsaecobbles wrong thread??

museumum · 31/10/2025 19:08

Bonnie & Wilde in the St James allows everyone to order different things (like a food court).

Silverbirchleaf · 31/10/2025 19:12

Papillon is our favourite restaurant. Another Italian. Good food and good value.

AmadeustheAlpaca · 31/10/2025 19:17

There's the Edinburgh Street Food Market beside the Omni centre next to the Playhouse. Lots of outlets with different food choice options. The vegan Mexican and the Japanese outlets are good, though there's an optional service charge for bringing the food to your table and the decor is a bit basic.
There are some chain restaurants in the Omni Centre, including Slug and Lettuce and Wetherspoons.
I also second Bonnie and Wild in St James Quarter, though sometimes a number of the outlets are closed. There's the Real Greek in St James Quarter and lots of noodle type places on the ground floor.
