Commute Edinburgh to Glasgow

Hello
DH starting a new role in North Glasgow near Bearsden and we currently rent in Morningside. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with that type of commute? Seems to have to be by car and I know the m8 has lots of traffic jam. He has flexible working hours so maybe can make it work until we move somewhere else ? Would South Queensferry be better commutable or maybe Linlithgow ? We love the east coast and Edinburgh in particular, so no sure we want to move to the west coast but we could be open for the right house.
thanks in advance for any insight you could share

I live in Glasgow and travel Edinburgh 2 days a week to be in office.
In my view driving Edinburgh to/from Glasgow during morning/evening office hours is difficult, too much traffic.
I travel by train (connection from Glasgow Queen Street for express train), it's much easier.
But even with train travel, Edinburgh to Bearsden will take lots of time, minimum 1 hour 30 min each direction.
I'd say Linlithgow is a better choice and it's on express train route as well but all depends on your personal circumstances and choices.
I'm giving a thought to move Linlithgow, but my DS going secondary so a good school is a priority for us.

We are in south Queensferry and my Husband commuted to Glasgow for 3 years, he left early to beat the traffic and it usually took around 45 minutes, it did grate a bit after a while but it’s manageable from here and a lovely place to live to boot ☺️

your biggest issue from the south side of Edinburgh is that he's also got the bypass to contend with, unless he weaves round the city which isn't any quicker.
Bearsden won't be a fun commute as he's got to get round Edinburgh and through Glasgow. Once or twice a week might be tolerable but if he's doing it daily I would seriously consider moving west.

There are direct trains from Edinburgh to Bearsden but they're not very frequent and take around 1hr 30 minutes. Plus your time getting to the train station, that's a good 2 hours twice a day. At least youre just sitting on the train till it reaches Bearsden though.

My dad used to do the reverse of this: Bearsden to Edinburgh.

It nearly killed him - he told mum he'd have a heart attack on the M8 if he had to continue long term. They moved to Dunfermline!

I'd seriously consider moving west.

Edinburgh to Glasgow itself doesn't need to be a terrible commute, but Morningside to Bearsden will be pretty hellish. At peak time that could easily take you two hours factoring the bypass and then getting over the other side of Glasgow.

Linlithgow you'd miss the bypass traffic so could make it a bit quicker but to be honest I'd be looking much further west!

I live in Bearsden so have only done this journey in reverse. Absolute nightmare commute. Taxi drivers sometimes go via Torrance and cut onto the motorway that way. I sometimes come back by Kirkintilloch to avoid traffic congestion in the centre of Glasgow.
i moved from Morningside to Bearsden. It is fine!

Thanks all for the insights. We’ll have to wait until he passes his probation before we can move anyway as we want our next move to be long term and for buying a house.
in the meantime he’ll have to to the commute, maybe leaving early around 7am and returning late will ease off the drive ? There is unfortunately no train station or bus walkable to where he’ll work.
thank you again
