I actually feel quite sick at that amount of money being spent. Think what could have been done with it.

While I understand the need for some money to be spent on polling this seems excessive. And I bet was mostly about independence or gender shite. 🤢

What about the NHS in Labour-run Wales, the worst performing in the UK.

Scotland's drug death problem is entirely a remnant from the heroin epidemic of the 70s and 80s, it's really no wonder that life-long addicts who are now hitting pensionable age are keeling over. Drug deaths in Scotland in under-25s are a fraction of those in E&W.

Anyway, drugs, smoking, and obesity are social and societal issues and not indicative of "wrecked services" which is what the original post was about.

That's really not true on drug deaths- usage is much higher still in Scotland. Benzodiazepines are a massive problem and are extremely cheap (about 10p for 10mg of diazepam). Etizolam is particularly dangerous.
The most recent statistics from NRS show 65% of deaths in Scotland to be aged 35 to 54, 19% in under 35s and 17% over 55 years. If this was all a 1990s hangover I'd expect fewer deaths under 35 years and more over 55 years. The number per 100,000 dying under 35 years has gone up since 2020. Sadly I don't think we're going to simply age out of drug deaths in Scotland.

Annemarie Ward, who was all for safe consumption rooms...until the SNP adopted it as policy then it was the worst idea ever.

Excuse me if I ignore her.

To add to this waste of money, I’ve been reading today’s news reports that in excess of £20 million has been donated by Scotgov to bodies which campaign for self- ID. And we can add to this the vast sums spent on the Supreme Court case.

There’s so much need in Scotland - the NHS, education, social care - why oh why can someone in power not use some common sense and decency and stop wasting our precious resources.

I completed a consultation for the National Records of Scotland (which is part of the Scottish Government) earlier in the year. It was about the Register of Tartans, and their fees. I appreciate this is fairly niche. They had a grand total of 30 responses, 5 from businesses and 25 from individuals.

This is not an efficient way of decision making.

Hyperbolic nonsense.

Even if it were the case, the alternatives have made an even bigger mess of services elsewhere in the UK, so there is no argument whatsoever for handing them the controls either.

No not the case our potholes in the SW are dire.
and I have travelled to Yorkshire and the SE England. Northumberland is so well maintained.
