Aberdeen Uni and accommodation nearby (for visitors!)

Hi. Hoping you can help as my brain is fried after looking at hotels for so long. My daughter is off to Aberdeen Uni in September, staying at New Carnegie Court (halls of residence). My mum and I plan to drive to visit her but I’m stumped as I do not know the city at all. Would you happen to know of any good, inexpensive hotels nearby? Parking would be a must. Ideally we’d be able to walk to the halls to save taking the car each time, though this wouldn’t be a problem if we could park at the student accommodation.
Many thanks.

My niece just graduated from Aberdeen. Any time we went up we stayed in a Premier Inn. Theres quite a few in town but no idea of the proximity to those halls

There is a Premier Inn at Bridge of Don. Not a pretty part of town but safe.
Not many hotels near the Halls. So you will have to drive at some point.
Maybe stay in the city and get a bus to the Halls? Good service from the city centre.

Premier Inn Aberdeen City Centre is a good hotel. About £60-70 for a double room per night. We prefer to stay in city centre and either walk or hop on bus that takes you up to the main campus. It’s not far and there are plenty of buses. Every time we’ve stayed on Open Days/Offer holder days there’s been a fair smattering of parents with their prospective students.

Travel Line Scotland is a good app and website. It will help plan buses. Or use FirstBus and Stagecoach.

You should be able to park at the Halls of Residence. Are you dropping her off on move-in day? It might be busy that day but there’s parking spaces in front of New Carnegie Halls - not sure if it’s just a case of first come first served. I think there’s parking at The Premier Inn City Centre.

There are quite a few B&Bs on King St near the Uni.

Not sure about parking being available at Hillhead, when I was a student you needed a permit (but that was when Adam was a boy).

Hillhead student village is about a 15/20 minute walk from Aberdeen University. You're probably best just getting a central hotel with parking, then either driving to see her or get a local bus which is easy to do. There is parking at Hillhead, or just explain to security you're visiting and they'll show you where to park. If you want to go down to the Beach Boulevard, you would need your car, or into town where there are payable car parks. Aberdeen is a fantastic uni and does so well on teaching-related surveys, so well done to your daughter going there.

The Premier Inn on West North Street is a good shout. You can get the no 20 bus to the Uni and Hillhead from just across the road on Littlejohn St or opposite Morrisons.

(Try to get the front seats on the top deck for the thrill of hurtling down College Bounds over the cobbles).

Aberdeen is a very compact city so with a car you'll be pretty easy there whether you go for city centre (just watch the bus gates) or Bridge of Don.

You can walk through Seaton Park from the halls to uni which is lovely. Have a nosey round St Machar cathedral on the way up the Channonry - it's beautiful.

the campus is open to the public so you can also go round the Cruickshank botanic gardens, in the zoology museum, up to the top of library to see the view (need to sign in) or in the Chapel.

If you have a car a drive up to Balmedie is also worth it for the beach.

Old Aberdeen is a bit of a hidden gem.

Edited to say there's loads of parking at Hillhead or you can park for free in Seaton park and go up the steps.

Sorry, I can’t access those as Mumsnet has made it so stupidly difficult to do so.
