Appealing Highers

Wondering if anyone’s DC is appealing any Higher results? I am not very familiar with the process and it won’t be clear until my DC returns to school if they will be a candidate, but would be interested in other people’s experiences.
I’ve picked up that an appeal may only be worth it if there is a mark or two in it. For my DC it’s a ‘D’ result in question and won’t affect their current uni hopes, so there’s a bit of a ‘nothing to lose’ if they could benefit from a mark that moves it up to a C. DC’s school isn’t great but we are expecting they will flag the possibility of appeals to kids whose marks are borderline.

Wishing everyone luck with the appeal service as it's very stressful waiting to hear back. We all just want the best for our DC. Everything 🤞

Thank you! X

Yes it was 31 October last year

ive put in an appeal for DDs AH as she got no award which surprised me as she’s never gotten anything like that before. To not even get a D is weird. I saw her coursework which was really good although she said the exam paper was hard and that’s the majority of the mark.

unless DD wrote nothing I can’t see how it was so bad to fall below 40% overall. Everyone else in the class got C or higher (I asked sqa). So the appeal is more to just double check nothing was missed. She doesn’t need it, but I want to check. I saw that around 42% who appealed it last year got an upgrade.

priority appeals decision was to be today. Has anyone heard anything ?

KaHaMa · 01/10/2025 14:43

Hi! Does anyone know when we can expect appeal results? My DS has appealed HBiology and H Chemistry.

cigarsmokingwoman · 02/10/2025 07:41

halloween usually

halloween usually

Is that by Halloween as a deadline (but earlier in practise) or do they usually come through on or around that date?

DC’s teacher has appealed a Nat5 on their behalf but we’ve been told very little

Ralstan · 02/10/2025 09:50

I thought appeal results were due today at 1pm. not sure where i read that :)

According to a message I've just received from
DC, today from 2pm......and should be visible on the parent portal app.

Ralstan · 02/10/2025 11:08

hope everyone gets what they are hoping for. though I'm not holding out hope as apparently last year's appeal success rate was 5.7% :(

KaHaMa · 02/10/2025 12:03

I've seen on another forum that English will be today at 1pm but im not sure if that means if its today for all subjects all just English. For sciences the success rate last year was just above 2%. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!

Ralstan · 02/10/2025 13:20

nothing yet but mine are waiting for Nat 5

DS must have been in that 2% last year for H Chemistry. He apparently clawed back an A4 side of answers worth of marks for his upgrade.

Good luck everyone!

KaHaMa · 02/10/2025 14:58

I just got an email from.scool that they will get sppeal results 'later on today' and that pupils will get an email TOMORROW 😑

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 02/10/2025 15:27

DS got his appeal back today. No change. Gutted for him as he missed an A by one mark, and that completely changes what he needs for his Advanced Highers (as subject combination at AH vs H/grades a factor for his top uni choice), and what he gets for his weakest subject is now critical.

He’ll be fine at the end of the day I’m sure, but it will be a shame for him if he misses out.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

JMSA · 02/10/2025 15:54

Daughter was granted a C at Higher History, which is very welcome after getting a D! She had been 2 marks off a C to begin with.
It just goes to show that appeals are worth a try 😱
Best of luck to all x

Ralstan · 02/10/2025 16:50

congrats to your DD JMSA. Commiserations to your DS WWTDD.

Still no news for my DS.

For those who have received results are they showing in the learners appeal sqa website? My DS is still showing as 'with SQA' Thanks

What a shame. Really sorry form him. Just 1 mark and I know it can make a huge difference. Could you/school maybe mention it was just 1 mark when they do uni applications? I know referees can add details like this.

My daughter got an email today from the Director of Studies at her (private) school. So the schools should probably already know. Hers was a non-priority appeal.
She had always felt that she did better than a D, so I’m glad it paid off. It was a difficult year for her health-wise too.
Good luck to all 🤞

Thank you.I think you are correct- sure the school already have the results but just haven't passed them on. No matter. tbh I don't hold out much hope for DS but always worth a try. :)

cazzyg · 02/10/2025 17:55

Waiting not very patiently despite knowing there is little hope. I've heard of 3 successful appeals so far in history and English.

Good luck everyone!

It could quite literally have been an A4 side of marks that was somehow missed.

LochAndHeather · 02/10/2025 20:40

My DS got confirmation that his Nat5 B in English is now an A. He was 4 marks off which is usually a lot to make up but his folio has been marked as a low B and his school (state) thought it was A standard. His actual exam was an A.

Really pleased he has the A now and glad we appealed - I think they must have looked at the folio again but I’m really not sure.

Does anyone know if another certificate is posted out? Does it just have the one appealed exam on it or all the Nat5’s?

Good luck to everyone waiting for news!

cigarsmokingwoman · 02/10/2025 20:52

I thought it was halloween as it was last year?
DD has not said if she's heard anything and she's at uni now with no access to school email etc so how can we find out? The subject she appealed was at a composite school not her own school and she doesn't want to contact her own school as she did not have a good experience in her last year.
