Private gynaecologist?

You have to wait a month for an appointment at my GP surgery, and they don't even tell you how long the wait to see a specialist (and then the wait for treatment) is. Because the hospital doesn't tell the GP. I've been on a list to see a consultant (different issue) for a year and a half.
Anyway, I have some symptoms that could well be ovarian cancer, and I'd be grateful for any recommendations and suggestions for going private, at least for diagnosis (I don't have insurance). Ideally Central Belt but will go farther if necessary. I have spoken to Spire in Edinburgh, and they said it would be "a few weeks" to get an ultrasound scan, which is far from ideal. I feel that living in Scotland, once you get to a risky age, can be a death sentence. Are people starting to go abroad for diagnosis?

Thanks, Genie. Yes, I've managed to arrange something. However, if there is a serious problem, then things become much more difficult. Testing is much cheaper than treatment so waiting times become a big issue again. I'm glad your son got the all clear so quickly.

@greyskiesgreyseai managed to get an appt in 10 days at Ross Hall Braehead. The consultant did an ultrasound scan there and then. Mine was ovarian cysts, likely benign but looking at ovaries, cysts and tubes removed. Surgery date beginning of October. I had the CA125 blood screening done and it was all normal so I’m hopeful. I can’t praise them highly enough I was very impressed. I do have private healthcare through work so it will only cost me £100 excess but I saw the invoice for initial consultation including ultrasound and it was £500.

I've never heard of those. Good luck with the surgery. I wonder how long you'd have had to wait without medical insurance.

@greyskiesgreyseathankyou, I’ve got an NHS gynae appt in September….4 months after I got referred. No sign of an ultrasound all they ordered was bloods. I hope youve got someone sorted, I was really impressed with Ross Hall
