For what reason? Middle of nowhere. Massive lack of public transport for anything and in the summer it’s tourist and midgie galore.

It’s not the nicest. I’ve friends up there who love living there, and the canal is quite pretty, but it’s quite a ‘plain’ town. Nothing really that stands out.

I like Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig, we holiday nearby each year and have so for 30 years. It has enough going on, and a great bus service to Glasgow.

I have friends who relocated from the central belt and love it. Both have fairly adaptable careers.

Why not join some local Facebook groups and see what the chat is?

@Thisisnotmyidso we used to live in Argyll but where we lived has no properties for sale. We moved as I wanted to live somewhere more urban but DH and DC really miss Argyll and want to move back. I don’t make as much use of the amenities where I live as I thought I would. DH really misses it and due to contact childcare arrangements my DC have with their dad, we can’t look at other scenic places further away that might be nicer.

I've never lived in it but I would agree with some of the other comments. Most folk I know who work in Lochgilphead area living in places like Cairnbaan and Ardrishaig (or even further afield). Woluldn't be my pick of places in Argyll - would probably be fairly near the bottom of the list TBH but not sure where you currently are/used to live.

We have family who live there. Food is expensive in the local shops so they tend to do a big shop once a month when they come to Dumbarton. Main activities for children are: pipe band, scouts (and similar organisations), football, rugby and shinty. Any other activities again it's a drive to Glasgow.
Lochgilphead school is pretty bad. Not enough teachers so narrow choice of subjects. Inspection a year or so ago flagged up a lot of issues that are not being dealt with.
It is a beautiful part of the country so lots of great walks, cycling and sailing.
