I’m considering a move to Dundee area around nine wells. Is it worth considering? Where could you live without a long commute and near schools for state primary then secondary? Thanks.?

Would recommend Newport, Wormit, Broughty Ferry, Monifieth or areas around Liff.

Perth town centre is now really run down nowadays and state secondary schools not great.

Weather in Dundee considerably nicer than in Edinburgh, it's almost like a microclimate.

I still miss living in Newport, spent 6 lovely years there and the village is now even more vibrant than it was before.

What about Inchture?

I'd opt for Dundee over Edinburgh for easier travelling.

I wouldn’t go over the water if you are working in Dundee. The bridge is a nightmare and closes far too often. The last thing you want is to be on the wrong side of it when you need to get to work or be back to pick up kids.

If you are working near Ninewells , you need to decide if you want city life somewhere like Dundee west end or village life in a small village in Carse of Gowrie.

West Ferry and Tayport are lovely but not very convenient for Ninewells.

The people who are suggesting St Andrews have clearly not done a daily commute plus school runs from there to Dundee in recent years . Even Perth is now quite a tiresome journey due to traffic volumes on the main road and the daily traffic jams at Swallow roundabout.

If you want private education for your children

The west end of Dundee is a nice area to live in but Dundee generally is run down and the centre particularly so.

Broughty Ferry is better for schools, amenities and general pleasantness but of course is a bit further from Ninewells.

The weather is possibly a touch better than Edinburgh but no more than that. A little drier and sunnier maybe at times, but the cold wind is there too!

To the pp who thought that Birkhill etc are in the Harris catchment, they're in Angus so get bussed to Monifieth.
