Renting a flat in Edinburgh? (advice please)

Many years ago I studied in Edinburgh. It was really hard to find a flat afterwards. I know things have not got easier since then.

My son wants to study in Edinburgh this summer. He had a heart condition (now OK) but would be better in a flat than in halls as he needs peace & quiet to rest outwith lectures. He has a friend he'd like to share with but this isn't essential.

Is it worth asking Uni if they have any 'disabled' accomodation or how the heck do I find a reliable flat at this stage? I appreciate that I probably just need to do work phoning agencies but feel a bit daunted at where to start.

They do have some quieter accommodation if he has applied for dsa. Otherwise would private halls, self contained studios, be an option as there are many there if pricey and popular with post grads and overseas students. There is also the unis letting agency called Domus which is available exclusively for U of E students ranging from flatshares to one bed/studios but in high demand.

@LIZS oh, Thank you! - there are more options than I had realised.
He would be at Napier not Ed Uni but they might have a range of options, I'll contact them & see. He hasn't applied for DSA but would qualify (has in past).

Part of the prob is that he wants to be 'like everyone else in hall' but we've read lots online re noise & hassle at Bainfield (main Napier accom) & it looks like it wouldn't suit him. He'd be better with a friend probably but accomodation with overseas/postgrads would probably suit him really well too (he's 21 now & has had a bit more life experience than many 18 y/o plus not a party animal either)

I'll look into it, thank you.

When you say "this summer" do you mean he's coming to do a summer school type thing or is he starting a year at the uni?
If it's a summer school thing then most students will be away and halls should be fairly quiet.

Two bed flats are a good bet. Most landlords would be happy to have same tenants for 4 years. DD who is just about to graduate has been looking herself (can't remain in her current flat as she'd need to pay 75% council tax) has found one at £550pm + bills with another non student. Look carefully at the areas if your DS doesn't want his sleep disturbed (avoid the Royal Mile/Grassmarket/Cowgate). My DD also found bits around Meadows noisy. If he has an unconditional then might be good to get something sorted before the IB/A levels results come out. Otherwise could be a scramble until after the postgraduate go in September/October.

A lot of unis have alcohol free halls. This might suit him better.
