Day out in Glasgow

So I have just recently moved up from the south of England to Ayrshire for work for a year or two. Just finding my feet but loving it so far! My lovely friend is coming up to visit for a few days and I want to show her a good time! Have plans for the local area sorted but also want to have a big day out in Glasgow - I don't really know the city yet. Can anyone advise a nice itinerary? We love art, culture, quirkiness, - anything a bit different -, shopping, eating and nice bars! Will be taking the train in and out. All recommendations/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Maybe Kelvingrove Art Gallery and a good wander round Finnieston , Byres Road , West End ? Check out the hidden lane in Finnieston and Gloriosa or Ox and Finch but millions of lovely nice places to eat and drink and Kelvingrove Park

itinerary suggested by chat gpt 😄

Morning: Whimsical Art & Hidden History
1. Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre
Start your day with a visit to this mesmerizing gallery on Trongate. It features mechanical sculptures that come alive with lights and music, telling intricate stories. Founded by Eduard Bersudsky and Tatyana Jakovskaya, it's a fusion of art, engineering, and performance.

2. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
Head to the West End to explore this iconic museum. Marvel at Salvador Dalí's Christ of St John of the Cross and delve into exhibits ranging from natural history to Scottish art. Don't miss the regular organ recitals in the grand main hall.

🍽️ Lunch: Culinary Delights
3. Paesano Pizza
Indulge in authentic Neapolitan pizza at Paesano on Miller Street. Recognized among Europe's best, their 24-hour risen dough and wood-fired oven create a perfect pie.
4. Hillhead Bookclub
For a quirky twist, visit this eclectic venue in the West End. By day, it's a café with retro games and ping-pong; by night, it transforms into a lively bar with events like Drag Bingo.

🎨 Afternoon: Street Art & Vintage Charm
5. Glasgow Mural Trail
Embark on a self-guided tour of Glasgow's vibrant street art scene. From gable-end murals to hidden alley pieces, discover works by artists like Smug and Rogue-One.
6. Britannia Panopticon
Step into history at the world's oldest surviving music hall. Once the stage for Stan Laurel's debut, it now hosts vintage cinema nights and live performances.

🍹 Evening: Dining & Entertainment
7. Websters Theatre
Dine in a repurposed 19th-century church at Websters Theatre. Enjoy a meal before catching a live performance in this atmospheric venue.
8. The Shilling Brewing Co.
Conclude your day with craft beers at this hidden gem in the city center. Known for its cozy ambiance and unique brews, it's a perfect spot to unwind.

Obviously, would expect personal recommendations will suit better. 😊

If you get tired, or weather is bad, the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) always has something interesting on x

Well all the art galleries are free so take your pick! I’d say if you like quirky -stick with the west end -you can start at the Kelvingrove art gallery and then move over to the Huntarian up at Glasgow uni. There is a new Japanese tea place on Byres Road called Hey Tea - the drinks are amazing -across the road from that is a lovely little patisserie called Sugarfall -the giant raspberry macarons are AMAZING. Food wise there is so much to choose from - If the weather is nice Brel on Ashton lane do some tasty stuff and have a lovely beer garden to relax in. If the weather isn’t on your side go to the other side of Byres Road down Ruthven Lane and grab some Vietnamese food in the Hanoi Bike Shop, or again just across the road from Hey Tea the Poke bowls at Okome are pretty epic. Amble your way up the charity shops of Byres Road (decent stuff!) and have a wander through the Botanics garden at the top.. then depending on taste you can end the day with Oran Mor (fancy quirky)on Byres Road or Hillhead Book Club (More students quirky) on Vinicombe Street. Whatever you do, hope you have a great time. ☺️!
