best places in Scotland for charity shops?

I am a self-confessed charity shop fiend. Cannot walk past one without going in for a wee mooch around and have had so many brilliant buys over the years. Not just clothing but homewares, craft supplies and loads more. Finding my regular stomping ground in Byres Rd/Partick is getting pricey and the parking restrictions are a nightmare - recently discovered Kirkintilloch has about 6 massive charity shops with prices 50% of what you'd pay in town.

Any other top tips?

There is a lot of stuff in the Renfrew one yes but it’s not all crap. We are near Milngavie and feel both the Oxfam and the cancer research have got pricey - the small save the children near Asda much better. Kirkintilloch good selection and good prices.

Tbh the actual mess of it put me off looking through it thoroughly but there was a lot of broken and dirty items, and just total crap really when I went.

Following this thread as planning on visiting a few different charity shops on the look out for a cake stand/sandwich stand for afternoon teas.

My contribution to the thread will be Dunblane charity shop.

Definitely Helensburgh. Callander has a decent selection too.

Brought Ferry (just posh end of Dundee really) has several fabulous shops. Never fail to find multiple designer items at good prices.

There is a really good Saint Andrew’s Hospice charity shop in Airdrie.

A bit out the way but if you ever find yourself in Aberfeldy there is a brilliant thrift shop. It’s taken over by different charities / community groups each week. Stock stays but it’s all about turnover so aim is to get rid of at least 25% of stock for next people. Nothing is pricemarked and they just guess what you will pay and if you pull a face knock a bit off. It’s great for cookware and craft stuff. Best time is early in the week as new donations get in on a Monday.

Agreed, the Feldy Thrift Shop is great! I lived there for 6 months for work, and it took me a few visits to figure out how it was run by different people every week, but the stock didn't change (apart from items sold and new items donated)!
A lot of the community groups that have it also do raffles in the shop, and I won a couple of nice prizes.
I bought an ironing board there the week I arrived, and donated it back again the week I left.

The Chest, Heart and Stroke boutiques are usually a good bet for decent labels. They tend to be in posh small towns or affluent suburbs.

Might be a bit far north for you but I was recently in Inverness and had a look round the charity shops, there were quite a few. All well-stocked and a decent selection. Pick of the bunch was Blythswood Care on Glebe Street with some really lovely & reasonably priced vintage clothes and bric-a-brac

Smallish posh towns outside the central belt

The Clan (cancer charity) shop in Ballater is quite good.

A friend also told me about the remake shop in Crieff which sounds amazing -all sorts of crafty stuff!

Motherwell has 7 (iirc) normal charity shops plus a bhf furniture shop all within 2 streets.
I’ve had some great hauls there
There’s also a big one at the retail park at Hamilton west (2 mins from Motherwell if you have a car) but I’m not sure how great that is as I’ve only been in once

I was reading an article recently that said Lanark is the thrifting capital of Scotland so I'd try there. In Glasgow i'd say Clarkston or Partick. There's some great ones along Dumbarton Road.
