Breed of dog yet to be disclosed. But it's not going to be a dachshund, cockapoodledoodle or a Jack Russel, is it?

Blocks of flats, both three-storey and a high rise, with green gardens, next to a road, under a cloudy blue sky.

Woman, 41, killed in dog attack in Aberdeen

Sad but happens in England too.

DrZaraCarmichael · 09/12/2024 20:57

Yes it happens in England too, but we imported goodness knows how many of these things before the Scot Gov got their fingers out of their arse.

You're right, it was infuriating when the SNP government dithered about introducing legislation to reflect the law change in England, leading to who knows how many XL bullies being "rescued" and transported north of the border.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 09/12/2024 21:45

I'm in Scotland. The ban came in far too late. It was more important to Humza to go against Westminster than actually do something to protect the public. Every drug dealer, junkie and general scumbag has 2 or 3 of these awful animals. Have yet to see one muzzled. A lot of them are off leads too, reporting them doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference. No enforcement here, ScotGov doesn't give a shit.

They were planning legislation that banned more than xl bullies. Only half of dog attacks are xl bullies. Something needs done about the other half as well.

There were foreseeable consequences to their dithering. It wasn’t the time for delaying while they thrashed out a more comprehensive bill. Delaying in order to not follow Westminster has had real consequences for Scotland.

Other dog breeds do bite, yes, but when you look at deaths caused by dogs in the last couple of years, a huge proportion were due to XL bullies. This is why the law needed to change fast.

Funny how this is being blamed on Scotland delaying, when the reality is Rishi Sunak pushed through a ban more or less overnight, with no scrutiny, purely to avoid having to answer difficult question. Parliaments have an order of business and limited time in which to debate and process bills, and it's absolute correct that whatever is going on at Westminster should not determine the priorities of Devolved parliaments elsewhere within the UK.

Blame the fucking idiots who think these dogs are nothing more than cuddly big softies and decided to move them across the border so they could munch on people in Scotland.

Delaying in order to not follow Westminster

Yes, I'm sure that's precisely how Government in Scotland operates. Take a look at what's going on south of the border, and decide to do the same thing, just on a delayed schedule for the sake of it.

Hint - Governments lay down OOB for the year at the start of parliamentary sessions. If some clown of a Tory PM decides to start acting on the spur of the moment for the sake of expediency, that's entirely up to him.

Condolences to the family of that poor lady, it must have been horrific for her.
Not sure it's necessarily the best story to start another anti-ex leader of the SNP thread though. We all know HY was an awful leader but KF wasn't exactly a great option either.

BigBoysDontCry · 10/12/2024 09:45

They were specifically informed that this legislation was going to be brought in quickly and that it was likely that people would move these dogs over the border if Scotland didn't do the same.

Scotgov stood up in holyrood and said our current legislation was fine as it was.

Then the dogs flooded over the border.

There is along thread about it here in Scotsnet with lots of articles etc that will be better than my memory.

It's sad that this is still happening but hopefully there is no backyard breeding still happening and that these monstrosities will all be dead in the next few years.

I'm not sure anything "needs to be done" about other breeds. The number if dog attacks is each year is tiny. Nothing compared to road deaths.
