Where in Glasgow?

Single dad with 3 kids returning to UK from US because I refuse to live here with trump in power. One of my kids is a young adult with profound intellectual deficits, and I need to be in a city and council where they will receive decent health services and social supports. Bearsden looks nice for his siblings and I, but would it be a good fit for him? And if anybody knows and thinks other cities or towns would be better fits, any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’d come for a visit and see a few places.

ASN support is often not great. It’s very stretched at the moment and I couldn’t promise that you’d receive anything like you’re receiving at the moment.

The job market is also a bit sparse for professionals.

We live in Bearsden and love it here. But I do not have children with difficulties as you describe so really wouldn't be able to comment on that aspect one way or the other.

Agree with coming over, renting, and scoping everything out.

You may wish to read up on the decline of Scotland with the SNP and in particular the state of poor old Glasgow. Then read about how unpopular sanctimonious Starmer and his free loading cabinet are doing across the UK before you jump ship.

Bearsden is lovely. What kind of place are you looking for - if you want more urban, the West End, Scotstoun, Jordanhill, etc are all nice; if your looking more for a 'town at the edge of the city' feel, then you might also check out Milngavie, Bishopbriggs, Newton Mearns, etc. All of those have decent school options.

The main Glasgow hospitals are the QEUH (in Govan - easily accessed by car but parking is a battle) and the Royal Infirmary (in the city centre).

Social work budgets are stretched, but there are options. It might be worth making contact with social work early on to see if what's available would meet your child's needs?
