It starts at 3, what time should the student arrive to collect tickets and gown, also do we all go in together and how early to go in?

When you say "do we all go in together", do you mean the student and family? If so, no, the student will be with the other students, entering a different door than the guests do.

A couple of years ago now and it was a before lunch rather than afternoon graduation but we went using the timings given and we were hanging around for ages. However we did end up with front row seats. No real queue for picking up gown or doing photos and we waited outside until we were allowed in and then the student went a different way and was seated on the other side from guests/parents.

Not been to a graduation at Strathclyde, but I sometimes work for Ede and Ravenscroft (the company that supplies the gowns), so have seen a lot of graduations from the 'other' side.

The student should get info from the University telling them when to arrive/pick up tickets and gown. With larger ceremonies (some have 500+ students), there may be staggered times to arrive.

Strathclyde's website says "You must be on campus at least 1.5-2 hours before the start of your ceremony to make sure you have enough time to collect your tickets, gown and to register. You'll also need to be seated in the hall 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony."

That is a normal sort of time, IME. If you're having official photos done, it's best to get them done before the ceremony, so you're not hanging around after. The queues for photography can be LONG.

I'd recommend arriving 2 hours ahead, and getting the gown collected and photos done, then you can wander around, even go for a late lunch if there's somewhere close by. If the student doesn't want to wear the gown while wandering around, there will be gowning staff on site to check they've put it back on correctly before the ceremony.

ds graduated last summer and we just followed the guidance on the Strathclyde website.

we went with him to pick up gown, he got photos taken , we also did our own photos before the ceremony. We then walked together to the ceremony and ds went in one door and we went in another. We got front row seats right behind the students which was nice.

bit of advice, if your child is wanting photos at the”Rottonrow Arch” go before graduation, we left it until after the ceremony and had about a 40 minute wait in a queue to get a handful of photos taken under this arch!

My daughter graduated from Strathclyde in the summer, a morning ceremony. By the time we saw her, briefly, before the ceremony, she had her gown and her photographs were taken. She stayed in her flat the night before so was up at Uni early and we travelled to Glasgow that morning.

I second the above advice about Rottenrow Arch. We queued for about 40 minutes too and the queue behind us became very long! If your ceremony is in the afternoon you should hopefully have time to go beforehand.

Enjoy your day!
