Can anyone suggest somewhere good that we can book? Coming down for the rugby next month so really want to book. Ideally central. Don’t want Morningside, Stockbridge etc. Bus arrives into St Andrew Square. Any ideas? Breakfast or brunch for a Sunday morning. Rugby is early afternoon.

Dishoom on St Andrew Square?

Dishoom on St Andrew Square?

Oh I should have said I checked that. Full already. Thanks though.

Haute Dolci is lovely.

Prawncocktail24 · 23/10/2024 10:47

Zaza's is always good

Thanks. Will look at their menu.

Thanks. Can’t book that I don’t think plus it’s the Grassmarket. Time wise, it’s just a wee but out of the way enroute to Murrayfield.

Greenwoods on Frederick Street is really good, as is the New Town Fox on Dundas Street.

southsidegal · 23/10/2024 12:39

Dishoom was also my first thought. Bacon naan roll and chai. Shame it's fully booked. Other suggestions sound good though. My Edinburgh knowledge is too out of date.

Poggishairtufts · 23/10/2024 13:52

There's a Loudens just off Market St now which is popular (bit pricey imho). Wouldn't recommend Haute Dolci, went once and it was really poor quality and miserable staff.

Snax is a proper greasy spoon, there are quite a few other places in the St James Centre, also the Edinburgh Street Food place on Leith street.

gavisconismyfriend · 23/10/2024 16:55

The Ivy on the Square - just along from Dishoom. Or Wahaca for Mexican.

EBoo80 · 23/10/2024 18:51

I’d go for Loudons rather than one of the chain places. It’s not cheap but spacious, table service, food is all good. And licensed if you want to start early!

OwlMother · 23/10/2024 19:44

Dishoom only book a very small percentage of the restaurant, they
keep the majority of tables for walkins. I've never had to wait very long for breakfast, if at all.

That's weird - I recommended it because the food was good and the staff were so attentive.

New Town Fox was lovely, but sadly now closed (or at least it was when I was last in Edinburgh in August). Such a shame!

Tinybigtanya · 23/10/2024 20:25

Contini, George Street. Class Italian.

RedLeopardSilk · 23/10/2024 20:29

Cafe Royal (more lunchy but serve from 11) Kaleidoscope Bar at the Malt Whisky Society, Queen Street (open to non members) or Teuchters at the west end would be my go to (none are fancy but all comfy and rugby accepting!).

hobbledyhoy · 23/10/2024 20:45

The King's Wark at the Shore

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 23/10/2024 20:51

The spence does lovely breakfast on St Andrews square

Contini on George st does fab porridge & bacon rolls

RedLeopardSilk · 23/10/2024 21:00

That's not a bad shout @hobbledyhoy - tram down then direct to Murrayfield. If Leith an option, Roseleaf also worth considering (or Teuchters Landing)... but Kings Wark brunch is gooooood.

Myattention · 23/10/2024 21:19

Thanks all. I’ve booked the Ivy. The shore is too far to go and get back from with bus times, time of tram, eating and to be back to Murrayfield for kick off. I do appreciate all the suggestions though. I have also booked Chopyra, if that’s how you spell it and DH can have a look at the menu and make a decision.

also check where the bus stops as many of the city link type buses stop around the west end which is closer to Murrayfield.

Groovee · 26/10/2024 13:02

All bar one on George Street does a nice brunch menu.
