How many highers for England?

I put this in the higher education board, but think people might know better here.

Does anyone know the maximum number of Scottish highers that can go forward to make up the UCAS points to get into an English university? For Scottish universities we’re looking at 4 highers for DD, but is it different for England? She did 4 highers plus NPA for s5 and is doing an advanced higher, retaking a highet, sitting a new higher and another NPA in s6. She wants to do film and we’re looking at around 104 points. She currently has 90.

The answer to this may vary university to university so you'll probably have to contact the course she's interested in.
Just as some Scottish universities want the majority of grades at 1 sitting, others just expect them by the end of S6 and are not bothered if you had to retake.
So you may find some English unis are stricter on how many H and AH you can include to achieve the UCAS points

When my son applied in England, they insisted on 3 x Grade A Advanced Highers, based on the fact that A Levels take 2 years and are at a more advanced level than Highers. However, as said, it will vary from course to course. I would email individual institutions to clarify.

ive been in touch with admissions for a couple of places. One has come back to say it’s a maximum of 4 qualifications, which I think is going to be the answer elsewhere.

They tend to want Advanced Highers because the English system is different and we're technically a year behind (this is why Scottish unis do 4 year degrees and English unis do 3 years)

It's not worth the fees to go to as low ranking a uni as she'd get into with 1 AH 1H & 1 resit.

She needs to be doing a minimum of 2AH plus 1 or 2 new highers.

What about college course in film in Scotland?

My DC2 has 2 school friends currently at English unis.
They both had offers based on grades they had to achieve in S6 just like the Scottish universities eg BB.
So you'll probably find once your DD applies it will be much clearer what she needs this year..

Agree with PP about looking for a college course which could then lead into university. My DC did this as a back up but didn't need it

It all depends on what you’re doing as to whether those universities are ‘low ranking’. She’s got a very specific career goal in mind (cinematography) and those I listed have great reputations, including a year in industry.. Plus, it doesn’t go entirely on grades. They also require submission of a portfolio, which is important. There are also a couple with foundation years that she already has the points for.

Once she’s done, she will have 4 highers, one AH and two NPAs (which are both in the area she wants to study in). In an ideal world, she will get into one of the two Scottish options, but we’re still looking elsewhere for the moment.

We also have a college option if nothing works out.

Should have also said she qualifies for a contextual offer.
