Where would you suggest moving to?

Currently live in South Lanarkshire, 10 minute train journey / 20 min bus journey from Glasgow City Centre. DH wants to move to somewhere more rural and would love to live in Barra or Uist, whereas I would like to stay near either Glasgow or Edinburgh for the amenities. DH wouldn't mind leaving all of that behind. The things I'd miss from having a city so close are: theatre and shows/ballet are my big 'thing' so I'm often in the Kings Theatre or Theatre Royal, cinema, gym and shops. DH wants to be out in nature and fish.

Does anyone know of a good place to move to that has:

Beautiful scenery
Spots to fish
Close to amenities

I don't think that I could live on an isle whereas DH would love to. Places that are not an option due to either living there previously are:

Argyll and Bute
Inverness
Scottish Borders

I'd really appreciate some suggestions!!

Don't know it well but Pitlochry came to mind, has a theatre and seems to be quite a bit going on.

Exactly.

I think you've misunderstood the post you quoted and have never visited Inverness...

Regardless, misinterpreted or otherwise, there is not a huge amount happening in Inverness for the spec OP is after...

Rural Stirlingshire: Callander, Doune, Drymen, Killearn, Aberfoyle. The latter ones are definitely within night-out distance of Glasgow (assuming you are driving, I don't think they have great public transport). They all have primary schools I think, and would be McLaren High catchment (which rates well).

Aberfeldy & Pitlochry seem lovely, but I would not say not striking distance to Glasgow/Edinburgh.

Or for more amenity closeness and a train line to cities, the outskirts of Stirling or Dunblane.

Also these are a great shout. Scenic but close to city life.

Crieff or Comrie. Country living but you've got the motorways to the big towns and cities. Should be in your budget.

Alternatively, nice towns and villages near but not in Inverness. Black Isle maybe? Or Nairn on the other side?

Aberfoyle. It's absolutely beautiful there but you're still an hour from Glasgow. I love it (don't live there sadly) Also Callander. If he's really keen on an island Arran or Bute are the closest. Arran is nicer.

Lochwinnoch?

inverness is pretty dead nowadays and quite depressing.

You don't sound compatible!

You could go quite rural and stay in South Lanarkshire. Biggar and surrounding areas are near River Clyde for fishing and not far from Edinburgh, Livingston and Glasgow. Close to M74 if you fancy making a break for the border!
