Hi, can any Glasgow based MNs please tell me how safe it is to walk from Glasgow city centre area via crown street to the gorbals area please? DD has secured a shop job and reckons she can walk it in about 25 mins, but is it safe? Thank you.

Daytime or night? Can she not get a bus or underground? Quicker and safer .

Leaving daylight but will be dark on way home. Bus seems to take as long as walking from what u can gather given number of stops.
@Piggywaspushed do you think it's not safe? I was thinking there would probably be a few people walking about at 9pm (so not overly late)

I mean , I don't know because it's not an area I frequent too often but in any big city public transport is always better and safer.

I don't think the river area is very desirable to hang around, in all honesty.

I'd be getting a bus home at 9pm as it will be cold, dark and, knowing Glasgow, pishing rain. The evening bus will be quicker as it won't be as busy/less traffic/probably won't stop at each stop.

I wouldn't be hugely concerned about safety, Glasgow is generally a very safe place to be. There can be a lot of drunk people in the city centre with anti-social behaviour at night, but it's not necessarily dangerous, just a little edgy. No headphones, head up, look where you're going and keep your wits about you - but that's advice for any city.

Yes, walk there (armed with brolly), bus back or underground if closer.

I lived off Caledonia Road around 5 years ago, and would occasionally walk home from the city centre via crown street at night. There were usually men smoking outside the toolbooth pub at tollcross and that short stretch before the bridge, but i stayed on the other side of the road and no one ever said anything to me. I always felt like i should keep my wits about me, its not the most desirable part of the city - but i never had any bother and i never saw any trouble. Its quite a well lit area and always a few cars on the road. Just stick to the main roads.

Agree with pp, dont walk with headphones in

I lived in the Gorbals some years ago. I am a man but I always felt safe walking on the roads. I agree that I would avoid walking along the path beside the Clyde at night.
I don't think it is any more, or less, dangerous than any other area

I've not had any issues around there, even in the dark. A couple of chats with folk who've had a few too many, but nothing tense or worrying.

General safety advice would apply: don't walk with headphones playing; pay attention to surroundings; consider Life360 or some other location-sharing for walking alone in the dark; be aware of safe places to go if feeling at risk.

There are some friendly pubs and shops along the route, and Central Mosque is directly opposite the Sheriff Court - if there are cars in the car park, there'll be men in there who'll help her if she needs assistance.

I worked in the Gorbals and felt fine walking around
