Inverness on a Sunday

My DH is working through in Inverness on Sunday and I have been invited along for the drive, which I like the sound of. As I obviously can't go on site, the idea is I'd get dropped off in Inverness (I assume city centre but who knows) and get picked up many hours later.

But I'm wondering whether there is much there to keep me occupied on a Sunday. I'd be quite content sitting in a coffee shop with my book and endless pots of tea, but is there likely to be any open at 9am, when I'd likely be getting chucked out the van?

Is there public transport options available on a Sunday that would let me venture a bit further afield to the surrounding areas? As you probably know, the weather has been rotten recently so I'm guessing that hikes or walks will be rained off pretty quickly.

Or, should I stay in bed, in Glasgow, and leave him to it 😊

Open to hints, tips and recommendations, thanks.

Been a while since I've been in Inverness but I'm sure it's the same as any other city on a Sunday. The main shopping centre might not be open at 9 but you can always go for a walk along the river first. There used to be a nice coffee shop along at the glass house beside the leisure centre. I'd obvs check if that's open. The bus station is in the centre too and trains if you want to venture further.

Leakeys 2nd hand book shop is famous for a visit if its open.

Unfortunately looks like leakeys doesn't open on a Sunday and the shopping centre opens at 11.

The leisure centre is open early and the pool is open at 9 if you fancy a swim? Then you could get a coffee and a walk back into town by which time the shopping centre would be open and maybe more cafes etc?

Thanks for all your great ideas. A swim and a walk is a very tempting suggestion!

Do a boat trip on Loch Ness and to Urquhart castle or similar.

There is a lovely leisure centre with a fun pool, regular pool, climbing wall and small garden, and a park nearby, plus the botanical garden is fab and has a good cafe. Those are all close together. Nice walks by the canal also.

I've just had a look at the botanical gardens website and am happy to report that the gardens, and café, open at 9.30am on a Sunday so that may very well be my first point of call. Sitting in the tropical gardens with a book sounds idyllic.

From memory they aren't big but lovely and perfectly walkable into the city after. You can cut down from there through the park and then along the river iirc.

There are tables and chairs in the tropical greenhouse to the left as you come out of the main entrance. Take your coffee and book in and relax in the greenery. It is lovely. There is also a really nice walk from the leisure centre along the Ness islands into the town centre.

Victorian market?

I just had a wee google of this and it looks great. Plus, it appears to be open from 8am so that could be a great shout if I arrive earlier than I'm expecting. Thanks!
