For four young adults please - no need for copious amounts of booze as it's for a 16 yr old's birthday lunch.

We'll be based near and around princess street gardens etc so very central.

Papillo, a lovely little Italian, and not overly expensive.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 29/07/2024 20:47

Wahaca at St Andrew's Square - yes, it's a chain but the food is good and there are mocktails that are more interesting than the run of the mill soft drinks.

ChocoChocoLatte · 29/07/2024 20:53

Will give them a look thanks.

Have managed to get the dungeons with my Tesco vouchers so we can go to a restaurant Smile

I love wahaca, always a winner with my teens 👍

Amarone on St Andrews Square

ChocoChocoLatte · 29/07/2024 20:56

Her favourite is Italian food so that would be great depending on location.

Does wahaca only have Mexican options?

If Italian is her favourite, Civerinos at Hunter Square. You absolutely will have to book though as it's festival time just now.

TheBanffie · 29/07/2024 21:02

For Italian in a lovely building Contini on George St is great - more grown up vibe but friendly and in a beautiful old bank building. The Dome is also very impressive (haven't eaten there recently so not sure on the menu). The Scotsman Hotel has the Grand Cafe which is lovely and you can nosy about the hotel a bit - really gorgeous place.

TheBanffie · 29/07/2024 21:04

Agree you MUST book! Otherwise you'll end up with M&S sandwiches in Princes St gardens - which if sunny is actually a total winner and you could give her the money saved on lunch to go shopping.

ChocoChocoLatte · 29/07/2024 21:55

We're no strangers to Edinburgh so aware of bookings but sandwiches in the gardens might be lovely. It's been a while since we've been in town for the festival.

Dungeons all booked Smile

Valvona and Crolla cafe on Elm Row - about 5-10 minutes walk from the east end of Princes Street Caffè Bar & Restaurant (valvonacrolla.co.uk) Authentic traditional Italian but you do need to book in advance. If you do wish to have some wine, you can buy it in the deli that you walk through first and just pay corkage.

Caffè Bar & Restaurant

The Caffè Bar in Valvona & Crolla was opened in 1996. The style of cooking is derived from recipes handed down to us over the years from our families in central and southern Italy which we prepare from produce we sell in the shop.

Fazenda on George street is always a winner with my sons

Groovee · 30/07/2024 22:11

Edinburgh street food may be worth a visit with teenagers.

Chez Jules on Hanover St is a big hit with my teenagers and their friends. Delicious food and great atmosphere. V popular lunchtime menu.

Second this, I follow on instagram and it looks pretty cool

MiddleAgedDread · 31/07/2024 12:19

Bonnie & Wild or Edinburgh Street Food seem popular with the teens although for a birthday it's not the most sociable dining experience as you tend to get your food ready at different times.
Vittoria on George IV Bridge is a great Italian and very good for groups. They'll also play "happy birthday" across the whole restaurant when dessert is served if that's your thing!

Really enjoyed L'artigiano with teen DC and reasonable lunch prices with good portions: https://artigianoedinburgh.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Lartigiano-italian-bistrot-restaurant-edinburgh-lunch-menu-0.4.pdf

Civerino's has a 20% young scot card discount, I would maybe ask about it when booking.

If they're still hungry at the end of the day a visit to Frites on Lothian Rd near the Usher Hall is recommended by my DC

We had the best day yesterday for her birthday and she chose pizza for lunch.

Edinburgh was gloriously sunny and buzzing in the pre festival build up.

Love our capital city.

Thanks all for all the suggestions. Tucking them away for imminent future visits.
