This is shameful. It's tipped from football banter into xenophobia.

I think Scottish people have embarrassed themselves over the last few weeks. They’re not our rivals, they’re not on the same level as England. I hope they have another referendum soon and leave the union for good.

How rude

It's ironic of course that the rest of the UK are just the same as the English in most respects but I'm assuming this paper is aimed at the same demographic as the likes of of the Star, News of the World, Sun - those with a reading age of around 8 years old.

Spot on. This whole idea that it's only English people who go to Spain and spend two weeks eating fry ups, watching football, getting drunk in English pubs. Of course no Scottish/Welsh/N Irish people would ever do that. 🙄 It is a total comic newspaper for the hard of thinking. It's all about "othering" - these weird English people who are absolutely NOTHING like those of us in Scotland, we are all different and special (and need to be independent). It's one thing to make the case for independence and nobody would ever have a problem with respectful political debate. But this isn't respectful or debate - it's just downright nasty.

Report to scottish police as a hate crime

What is The National anyway - never heard of it.

I really couldn't care less about football but certainly don't subscribe to the ABE stuff. To me it's just childish and pathetic. There's a man in our town who has a flagpole in his garden and, every time England are playing, he has the opposing flag flying - must cost him a fortune.

I love Scotland and Scottish people, I always cheer them in sport unless against England. No idea why as no Scottish links, I just really like the Scots I know I suppose. Great dark senses of humour and laid back.

However as a country they’ve broadly rejected independence and recently have voted themselves back into Britain again, under a Labour government. All this ‘England forces us to…’ is a nonsense - they’ve had ample opportunity and a referendum to leave the Union, and Westminster, and they decided not to.
