Getting around Glasgow

I have the best part of the week in the city - ie Monday to Sunday - coming up and want to explore. Staying in the West End.

Is it best/easiest just to pay for everything via contactless. Or is there some weekly pass I can get? Is there one for both bus and subway?

I find the info online a bit confusing, and thought you might be able to stop me from getting lost!

Get a weekly pass for Subway - gets you around West end Kelvin side and city centre. Recommend visiting City Chambers (most gorgeous marble staircase, beats Buckingham Palace!) and Glasgow Uni (I’m a proud alumnus!). Don’t go south of the river further than the BBC - dangerous gory place. And avoid blue and green clothing if you do manage to find yourself on the south side.

Being a south side girl myself, I might disagree slightly with the previous comment. Wear blue and green if you like, no one will care, maybe don’t wear a Celtic strip in a rangers pub but a part from that crack on.

Some of the south side is very nice, there is a cafe called cafe strange brew in Shawlands that does the most amazing breakfasts! And Pollockshaws road is great for a charity shop mooch.

The west is great too, I love the botanics, a drink in the hillhead book club or Ashton lane. You could even go on a local walking tour if you want to learn the history!

Lots of great places to visit on the southside. Pollokshields and Shawlands are not "dangerous gory" places! Try the Burrell collection in Pollok park, house for an art lover in Bellahouston park or Queens park for a walk. Can recommend the Grind House in Darnley Street for lunch.

Download the First Bus app. You can buy a weekly ticket on there and use the QR code on your phone to pay. If you're going about on the bus it'd be much cheaper than paying each time. The app also tells you what bus to get and when the next one is coming, it's great. If you're going to he city centre, West End and South Side I'd just get the bus.

I assume the previous poster was being sarcastic about the south side. It's lovely.

Thanks all. It looks as if a First Bus Network weekly ticket will get me in from the airport as well...

The Burrell Collection in Pollok Park is worth a visit - and there are Highland cows! Also the Hunterian museums at the uni.

ETA: sorry, that's not what you were asking!!

The hunterian art gallery in the west end is good. Loads of places to eat and drink . You could really just walk a lot, tbh.

Was v impressed with Glasgow. Stayed in West End, wandered round galleries, the Botanic Gardens, walked along the Kelvin, shopped, saw the Cathedral and the Necropolis, the Highland Cattle, caught buses, ate good food. Thanks for the recommendations!
