Hello mumsnetters

Firstly I'm English but I had a question for u guys. This in no way means to be rude as I simply adore the Scottish accent but I'm confused to a little something. So he discovered the lovely artist Nathan Evans and his latest song is called "highland girl"

In a few of the versus hea saying "I knew...." etc but the I sounds like a"C/K" rather than an I

How comes lol
Must curious

I ken = I know

Similar to the German verb kennen

SnaccidentsHappen · 07/06/2024 18:41

I've not heard the song but he's probably saying 'ah Ken' which means I know

TwoThousandAcresofBlueSkyThinking · 07/06/2024 18:47

"and another for luck, I didn't know". The ck of luck runs into ah (I). Is that the bit you mean @greenmario ?

Laurenlpsum · 07/06/2024 18:50

I don’t think he’s pronouncing I as K/C, I just think he’s not really vocalising the I or at least he is moving on very quickly.

He seems to pronounce the longer “I”s as “Ah”

Shamrockk · 07/06/2024 19:01

We mostly say “Ah” for I.

So he’s putting a lot of emphasis on the K and then just quickly going into the next sentence so “luCK A didn’t… “

Hope that makes sense lol.
