Advice on going to the dump!

Helping a relative clear out stuff and need to go to a dump. Never used one before!
Do I just turn up? It’s not a lot of stuff, just a few items. Thinking of Dawsolm, Braehead?- how do I get into that one?- or one near Bishopbriggs?
Any advice appreciated! Did try to call Dawsholm but can’t seem to get through.
Thanks!

I think they tend to be called recycling centres now. Our local one requires proof of address and they are quite strict about you removing recyclable items from the general waste.

I'm not in Scotland but ours you just show up, there's usually a man on the gate who ask what type of stuff you have (green waste, cardboard, wood, metal etc) then direct you to the right giant bin.

You do need to separate by type before you go so it can all be put into the correct bin.

Thanks so far… as I say, not a lot, and the biggest item is a chair- which isn’t huge….

Go onto the recycling website. Varies re turning up or book appointment... in Edinburgh you have to make an appointment (easy to get) online.

You need to go to lical council website and you’ll find information by searching recycling. Ours doesn’t need appointment bookings but the one 10 miles down the road (which we can’t use as it’s a different council) is by appointment only

You need a booking and proof of address in my council area.

I just turn up to my local one. If its a van I think you need to contact them in advance but not just for a car. Mine has skips clearly marked for the item e.g. garden, general waste, metal, wood, small electricals. They even have sections for bikes, large electrical appliances.

Just drive close to the skip you want and put the item in the correct one and the drive away again

And I only had to prove my address during covid, the rest of the time I can just drive in

We have to register and book a time slot.

Thanks so much…. The Bishopbriggs one would be handy👍👌
